If a rubber topsheet is tacky it will be better in creating topsheet spin, brushing the ball and the technique has to be quite different because you shouldn't sink the ball to much into the sponge, right ? And if it's grippy, you have to sink the ball into the sponge and much as you can to create mechanical spin.So how those spins are different ? Which one is better for serving and looping ?

Thanks.

If a rubber is grippy, you can still use the topsheet to brush the ball. But generally, most grippy rubbers generate more mechanical spin. Most people will agree that a tacky topsheet will be able to generate more spin in both looping and serving. For serving, a tacky topsheet and a hard sponge is easier to generate spin with.

So much of it depends on your stroke.

For most people, Tacky is easier to generate spin on soft shots like serves and pushes.

But Tacky requires better technique and accuracy to make high speed loops (you have to have the control to be able to brush/graze the moving ball). You also need to close the face of the rubber more.

e.g. with a "hitting stroke" (open face, full contact) the tensors will make more spin than a tacky rubber; but if you have the technique, a "brushing stroke" will make more spin with a tacky rubber.
