Ever so slightly off-topic:

How much (if any) does one's playing style need to change when using a tenaly blade?

Tenaly can be played shakehand or penhold. As a shakehander, I don't think it change too much from normal blade. I haven't played with it yet, but I assume blocking will become easier, no need to bend the wrist.
Looping will be the same, smashing will become easier too.

Could you take a picture of this blade in your hand? It looks like the handle is thicker than the normal FLAcoustic. If so I may go this route versus getting another FL handle. I want to have more than one to try different rubbers. Great photos.

The handle is 21 mm thick compared to acoustic FL 22 mm. So it's 1 mm thinner, but it's wider. It's fits my big hand better than the Acoustic FL.
If you can play with Acoustic FL than surely this blade fits your hand better.
I can't play with Acoustic FL without extra grip.

I found Tenaly Acoustic a bit thin for my hand, but still playable.

Weight and balance? Is handle sealed by factory? What are the reasons someone would use Tenaly handle? Is there anyone on the forum using this and can you share any insight into how this blade plays versus regular style handles? Is there a FH vs. BH bias to this style of handle?
TIA

edit:Oh yeah, awesome pics!!!

The weight is 88 gr. Probably a bit head heavy, haven't tried it with rubbers.
The handle is sealed with Minwax oil based Polyurethane glossy finish. I also sealed the edge of the top ply to prevent edge splintering when peeling off the rubber.

The reason to play with Tenaly blades is you don't have bend your wrist like normal blade. I'll let you know and give comparison with normal blade if I've played with it Smile

Thanks Tongue

I have looked at this blade more than once and often wondered how it compares... but at 160 US seems a bit much unless you know what to expect.

It's just acoustic with different handle. The feel is exactly the same. The finishing is very good as usual. I've been wondering whether buy or not buy this blade, finally decided to buy it although it's expensive.

Right, I just meant regarding the Tenaly style handle. Would love to know more if the angle makes a big difference.

Not sure about the head size. Yes, It's irregular, maybe it's designed to fit with the handle shape, to make the whole things balanced.

Size: Total Length 253 mm x Width 148 mm

Handle: Length 93 mm x Max Thickness 21 mm

So were you comparing the older thinner sized Acoustic or the newer Larger sized handle Acoustic?

Funny how it provides more rubber room when in your hand.

In the picture, it's compared to the Larger Sized handle Acoustic.

Yeah Tenaly gives my fore finger more room since the head size is bend down.

I have a Tenaly Original. You don't need to change anything, just get used to its grip. Just hold it the way you hold the regular blade. The only reason why some players are uncomfortable with this blade is that they try to adjust their grip and always keep on looking on the blade when playing.

My only complain is that its handle is too small and narrow.

But overal, it s a great blade and a good choice of wood materials. Rather medium hard feel and good speed and control.

Peter, I see that you "choke" the blade, meaning your grip is way high on the neck.  I tend to hold it a bit far from the neck.  If you hold it a bit far, will Tenaly grip still feels good?
