I had the same problem for a while. It'll work better if you just press the applicator hard into the sponge for a few seconds while squeezing the bottle. After the CTE soaks through the applicator (you can see it oozing out the sides), I continue to press down and squeeze as I apply it. It'll get easier :)

Hi everyone,
Sadly - After using CTE for many months, and pouring it on (like speed glue) for 7-8 applications each time, and waiting almost a week to apply to racket.... I have finally decided that it just isn't worth it!!!
The effect is not that close to speed glue.
It works fine for practice - but horrible at tournaments!!!!
I'm going thru speed glue WITHDRAWAL right now.
But - I still refuse to go back to speed glue - so I'm in the process of evaluating the rubbers with built-in effect... Two years ago there was nothing acceptable... Keeping my fingers crossed for something better today!
My rubbers (currently): Hurricane 3 (NAtional) & GPS
My new rubbers: I'm open and flexible as long as I don't glue!

when you are about to apply the CTE to the rubber hold it upside down with the CTE bottle facing the sponge and then push the little red thing in that is in the middle of the sponge, the CTE should come out really easy

Here is what I started to do now: a) I take off the applicator cap with sponge (requires a little tug but it's coming right off without much problem) b) very slowly I pour just a little bit (or not such a little) on a disposable plastic spoon c) put the cap/sponge back d) pour CTE out onto the rubber(s) moving the spoon around at the same time and immediately spreading it all over using your CTE bottle (the standard way) |

Dude, you shouldn't pour it like that after the first time. You are only supposed to add 1-2 layers. Also, after 3-4 applications, clean up the rubbers - get rid of the glue buildup (I am hoping you are only using water-based glues like Tibhar Clean Fix - otherwise you'd have almost no prayer to get speed-glue effect - regular glues wouldn't allow CTE to penetrate after the first application). And why would you want to do that every week... my experience tells me you can surely wait at least 2-3 weeks until the next re-gluing... |

LOL,
I apply all 8 big layers before I ever glue it on the blade.
I only apply a couple of layers the second time around (3+ weeks) after removing all the glue from rubber/blade.

Sounds like a proper way to do things with CTE ... what's exactly the problem then? |

Here's my problem with CTE right now...
1) It takes too long to apply the eight layers - too much curling & waiting for them to dry. Almost a week. Including waiting a couple of days for the rubber to uncurl back to "taco" shape.
2) Apparently that's not enough. Too slow on both H3 & GPS. Usually feels horrible (esp in tournaments) and needs a couple of extra layers.
3) Adding the couple of layers is a major pain - taking off the glue from rubbers and blade. Then takes another couple of days to put them on.
4) Then it plays a little decent - but nothing like speed glue.
5) To play a tournament I'd have t spend 10 days and half a bottle of CTE to get rubbers ready...
So you see - the convenience of not gluing has disappeared. At this point it's much faster and essier to glue.
Since I refuse to go back to that... It's time to invest in several non-glue rubbers and see what happens!

That sounds very strange - especially about time to dry. My layers dry up in under an hour (especially the first 6-7 layers during the first application). Also - about scraping the glue off. There shouldn't be any after the first time. Are you using a water-based glue? Tibhar Clean Fix is recommended and I had no problems with it. If you are using regular glue then this is the only culprit and you need to go back to square one. If not then which glue are you using? I have done H3, Srivers, Mark V 30, Tibhar Rapid, 729 Cream MRS - no problems whatsoever... |

1) Keep in mind - I'm applying / pouring a 1"+ amount of CTE every time. So after 3-4 layers - it takes over 6 hours to dry. And, by the end it takes over 12 hours to dry!!
2) When I used to apply smaller amounts - it dried faster but the effect was too slow for me.
3) Use BTY Water chack.
4) I guess in the end it boils down to a subjective feeling. CTE is still the best rubber conditioner I have ever tried - much better than long-term glues, and the effect does last over 3 weeks. It's just become a pain to use!
5) If my rubber experiments don't work.... Aaaagggghhhhh

Perhaps you should go with a more traditional scheme
a) apply regular thin layers with the applicator, no more than 10 layers the first time and just 2 each time after that b) use Clean Fix - it is kinda obvious that Bty Water Chack just doesn't work properly with CTE. The glue buildup just shouldn't happen after 1-2 apps c) give it some more time... I guess |
