Hi,

Has anyone on the forum used Samsonov Carbon blade by Tibhar?  Appreciate any feedback that you can post to the forum about this blade.

Thanks.

I had this blade with ST handle. I used it with Mambo H and Torpedo soft. It's really fast, and good for blocking, smashing etc. Didn't really loop well close to the table, but pretty good from mid-distance. It was just too fast for me..

If you want something this fast, then go for something like Schlager carbon. It has a much better feel for the short game, and is better for looping.

If you like smashing, are used to fast blades, and have really good control in your short game, then it might work for you.

Schlager, are you saying that the Schlager and Samsonov have similar speeds but the Schlager has better control or that the Samsonov is faster?

I had this blade. VERY VERY fast. Its got an interesting feel. You can spin so easily with it cause it is stiff and any rubber with hard sponge, I used torpedo soft, is penetrated right through topsheet and makes an awesome grip with the ball.

The downside is that its thick, a little heavy ( 90g ) and difficult to use in short game.

Thanks for all the replies.  I already ordered it.  I am trying to raise my game so I can play local tournaments.  I have a Ma Lin carbon with tenergy 05, 2.1 mm on FH and nimbus soft 2.5 mm on backhand.  I was having lot of trouble generating enough power with it.

I know power is all about stroke execution and timing, but it also having the right equipment.

Schalger carbon is about 8 to 9 gms heavier than Samsonov carbon so I decided against it, though from the description here it might also suit my game.  I like a medium heavy bat, hopefully Samsonov carbon will be it.

My Samsonov Carbon is even heavier than my Schlager Carbon. Samsonov Carbon is my first blade. It's about 1,5x faster than Schalger carbon.
But the control is very poor. Smashing is good, but this blade isn't for a looper.

The ones I tried were about the same speed. (I see that some think Schlager Carbon is faster, and some think Samsonov Carbon is faster. It probably has to do with the weight or something) But the Schlager Carbon had a better touch (a bit softer top-ply?) and it was easier for me to control..

hmmm!!! there is also this comment from lexsha who says it is easy to generate spin with Samsonov carbon.  Thanks lexsha.

I was planning on putting tenergy 05 2.1 mm on fh and sriver 2.1 mm on bh.

I am taking a bit of risk here,  as far the weight of the blade goes.  Wonder why they advertise something on the data sheet about the blade weight and there is so much variation.

Let me elaborate on my comment:

If you loop with super fast blades, like Samsonov Carbon, you need to stop going through the ball with all out power. You need to have a much finer contact. The forward direction due to decreased dwell time of the ball, need to be very soft. Meaning, you need to catch the ball to loop it. If you pound the ball instead, you will have lots of trouble looping. Pounding the ball will make a loop stroke a smash, unless you start closing the angle of your paddle.

The looping closed paddle angle will be something to get used to, at times, the paddle will be almost horizontal at contact with the ball, since that would be the only way to put spin on the ball - again same problem of reduced dwell time.

I still love this blade, but I've settled a long time ago to agree that its not for me. At least not in my current skill level.

leshxa, thanks for futher clarifying.  I got a experienced coach working with me.  Hopefully he can fine tune my shot execution.  Anyway, I got to wait 2 - 3 weeks more because they are out of stock for Tenergy 05.

Again, thanks for all the replies from everyone.  Will update you after a couple of months on how it goes with this.

Hi Leshxa,

One last set of follow up questions.  How comfortable is the samsonov handle - I ordered flared.  I am about 5' 9'' and a medium size glove fits my hand.  I prefer blades that have a medium to smaller circumference handle so it sits loosely in my hand.  I find yasaka gatien, butterfly joyner h, flared handles very comfortable to use.  How does Samsonov carbon compare to them?

When you say blade is thicker how does it compare to some of the standard butterfly carbon blades?

I hope you have the patience to reply.

Thanks,

ps> if others on the forum know the above or have an opinion, appreciate help me out here.

Sorry for delay. Just got back from another tournament....

The handle is fantastic. Its one of the best handles I've ever tried. The flare on the handle is such that it doesn't slide up or down, which is a big problem with other blades. The thickness of the handle is medium. Not too large or too small so its very comfortable. I'm sure you'll love it. Lots of tibhar blades are famous for their comfortable handles. Samsonov Alpha is a prime example.

As far as thickness, I don't how it compares to butterfly, but its 7 ply + 2 carbon, so its a bit thick. read the info on the web site where you bought it, they have dimensions, I don't remember them.

Hope this helps.

Leshxa,

Thanks!!!  Hope you exceeded the goals you set for yourself at the tournament.

I will check the blade dimensions.

Now, I got to be patient till my racket arrives.
