    Posted: 08/09/2007 at 12:40pm

Everytime there's an inquiry about what equipment a world class player is using there's always a few people who claim that player so and so (Wang) is not using the blade that his sponsor is claiming he uses but is using some other blade with the handles changed to the sponsors brand.

My question is: HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO FIT ANOTHER MANUFACTURERS HANDLES TO A BLADE AND TRIED TO PLAY WITH IT? AND HAVE YOU EVER ACTUALLY SEEN A PLAYER AT ANY LEVEL SUCCESSFULLY SWITCH A HANDLE ON A BLADE???

I really doubt this claim but I would like to know if anybody has ever seen any player make this switch or seen one of these doctored blades.
Certainly it would require a great deal of craftsmanship to fit a DHS handle on a Stiga blade and it certainly would not play anything like either original blade. Easier to have the sponsor tweak the blade to play like how you want it to.

And while I am on it, why would Hao Shuai play with an Avalox blade then when he could just switch the handles to his sponsors' (Friendship).

Very impressive!
I know the HWL has a wide throat while the stiga's is more narrow and I think the HWL is also wider at the butt of the grip so if these handles are fitting perfectly then some modification (shaving) must have taken place.
I think the WHL blade is thicker so I wouldnt expect the  handles to work with the Stiga.
Have you anymore pictures of Pro's blades?
Thanks a lot!

In China there are many shops making blades. This can be altered by them quite easily.

Kreanga is a very noticeable one. K.Kreanga/ Legout handle (purplish with stripes) on a Primorac Carbon blade.

I find it quite interesting that Wang Liqin would go through so much effort to switch his handles ostensibly to disguise the fact that he's not using his sponsors blade and then allow his blade to be photographed (and circulated ) so openly. Isnt that like a contradiction?

If he's going to allow pictures of his 'special' to be taken why not just play with the Stiga outright?

Somethings 'Wang' with this picture.

weeell arent we a sceptical one, switching handles is wery common issue in case off pros but in general also in amature cases iv seen alot of custom blades!
If you have any skills with your hands you can do it yourselfe if not you can handle it to someone who has, because its quite easy. take off the old handle and glue on a new one!I realy doubt that Wang and the crew are doing it by themself they probebly give their blades to the sponsor and live it to them to atach the new handles!
i have a information from a very reliable source about Samsonovs blade! Its actualy a  Mazunov blade that he is useing with tibhar handle!
the reason why they are doing this is that they were probably playing with these blades before they got any sponsorship contracts with anyone, and they do not like to change their blades so they just switch handles and everybodys happy, except us because a lot of us think that if we buy a blade that they are playing with  we are going to become like supergood players.

How would you put a handle larger than the original one ?
They'd surely be a void !

that is not WLQ personal blade but a replica of what everyone thinks that he is playing some posted that picture here a few months ago showing everyone what they had made to copy what everyone said he played.
if table tennis is to sports, what star wars is to movies, then you must be chewbacca.

Now this is really getting interesting.

Earlier on in the thread I directly asked wawaicetea123 who's blade it was and he said it was WLQ's now creeder is saying its not.

I wondered why WLQ would doctor his blade, leave the obvious Stiga marks on and then take a photo of it!

It would be interesting to hear what other pros are switching handles (real or imagined) please keep them coming.

Liqin or any of the other players may not actually switch the handles themselves, it may be done for them.

But players do change their handles; from persson's site, 100 questions:

Q:  On your site you state that you are using the Powercarbon, flared handle, with max Coppa light (Tennero?).
At cn-tt.com they have a picture of your blade (supposedly?) showing that you were using the Powerspeed, straight handle, with max J.O. Waldner rubber at that time.

A:  I have tried several different rubbers through the years. Sometimes I change. It depends on the quality of the rubber you get.
This is not a big deal because I always use Donics best on the market.
In fact I play with an very old grip from 1989 which Im very pleased with.
What I can say is that the carbon I use is a little bit thicker. Earlier I used harder but now I play with softer material.

varghesep,
Note: this comes from tennis, baseball,& golf, but a larger handle give the feeling of a sllightly lighter head.
It also makes it harder to use subtle wrist movement(being your hand/fingers are spread slightly further and the racket is more in your palm than your fingers.

When I go back to China I will replace ALL of my Stiga handles . . . they stink. The Fl-Master is too thin. The Fl-Legend is too fat. The straight are like holding a baseball bat and the Anatomic feel like my first girlfriend. Still, they have great blades. Time for some customizing.
