    Posted: 01/20/2012 at 11:53am
I am interested in what the top players in the US are playing. Please copy and paste the entire list into your comment and add the equipment that you know. That way at the end of this string we should have a fairly complete list with what they are playing.

I started some that I have seen, but I am not 100% sure.

If your topic had a different name ? and why do you have players with 562 and 1500 rating points, you could have pushblocker at 27 lol shall I ask him?
are these USA Olympic trialists? arn't there other higher rated players not on your list?

As I understand it - it is the USA - land of the free (to do anything you like provided you have the money)....anyone with the entry fee and a dream is allowed to try out for the Olympic team.  Again I have this as second hand info. Apparently, the lady at 562 was a former Polish international player - she took time off to have a family and is planning on a comeback. She is sponsored by a TT robot company.

I looked again and Tahl wasn't there on the trials list for feb.  I swear I saw him on the list just a week or two ago and I saw him quoted as being committed to playing both paralympics and Olympics if he could make our team.  Don't know what happened for him to withdraw.

Yep, this is the way it is in the U.S.  Anyone can try out for the Olympics if you just pay the entry fee (200 USD for 2012).  For the 2008 Beijing trials, it was the same thing.  I think they had three 1400 players that entered.  I also remember someone, possibly a reporter, who was unrated entered just for the experience.  These players of course have very little chance of making it through the qualifying round so they usually never get to play against the prospective Olympians.

There is a continuing debate about this.  Personally, I don't have a problem if any player wants to spend 200 bucks and tell their buddies that they tried out for the Olympics.  I see it as trying out as a "walk on" like in basketball or football.  Unless TT gets much bigger in the U.S., I don't see this changing.

Those weren't ordinary 1400 players - they went on to start the SPiN club in NYC with Susan Sarandon. This time there's this Newgy-sponsored Polish singer, again a special case. It's not a big deal anyway: the qualifier is single-elimination, so it's just one match and out. And the total number is still very manageable.

I actually find it a good idea and we have something similar for the US lawn tennis and golf opens.  It gives the USTA a chance to earn more money, attract attention and organize events while letting people who may just be talented but undiscovered (very unlikely but possible) have a chance of getting into the spotlight.

From a previous conversation prior to pre olympic trials raghu mentioned using TBS with Hexer HD / Acuda S1.

the hexer hd switch happened right around the time of the post. so it is indeed now hexer hd and s1. on gergely alpha

Clipper CR WRB + Tenergy 05 FH + Boost TS BH from the last time I saw her a month and a half ago. She said she was just too used to Boost TS when I asked why not Tenergy both sides. Also, picture taken at Nationals shows she's using a yellow sponged rubber on BH, which is characteristic of the Boost series.

Anyone else find it amusing that these guys play with the same setups that are most common amongst US1000-1400 players?

Either everybody and his mother are Timo fanboys or something else is at play here.

are these USA Olympic trialists? arn't there other higher rated players not on your list?

As I understand it - it is the USA - land of the free (to do anything you like provided you have the money)....anyone with the entry fee and a dream is allowed to try out for the Olympic team.  Again I have this as second hand info. Apparently, the lady at 562 was a former Polish international player - she took time off to have a family and is planning on a comeback. She is sponsored by a TT robot company.

All good 4th best in thier school but an Olympic trialist Clap

I have a friend who went to the Olympics tryouts a couple weeks ago. He said it was very interesting and people should go if not to play, just to watch all the different styles.

Second that -LOL , I think could be due to excellent marketing and very many coaches recommend it for developing young kids - am not kidding when I say this - I have seen about 90% of kids in this training at Mary land who were using the same combo and most kids were under about 1400-1500.
