Just FYI, Yue and Lily are the 3rd and 7th seeds, respectively, at the upcoming ITTF Challenge Belarus Open.  There's a number of Japanese players attending, and you can bet the JNT is reviewing videos of Lily's matches.

Before the Belarus Open Lily is announced at a tournament in Holland, Oct 26-27:

Nikhil Kumar and Nicholas Tio are entered too. US sweep?

Lily withdrew from the tournament in Holland because of the ongoing foot issue. Nikhil and Nicholas lost in the quarterfinals.

It's official.  Lily (WR#33) surpasses Yue (WR#37) in the November Ranking list.

But someone get the memo to Lily.... TODAY, NOV. 4, IS THE LAST DAY to enter in singles for the 2019 ITTF Challenge Plus North American Open.  You are so close to the finish line, Lily.  Let's do this!

An impressive list of players for the tournament.  This suggests the ITTF is promoting this quite strongly within the associations.

As to Lily (assuming she does not enter), the best speculation is that she has a scheduling conflict, as it seems she should be there otherwise.

Thanks,

Standings of the USA Women's WR race after Belarus remain the same. However, I want to congratulate the USA Women's Team since they've broken into the Top 10 in the ITTF World Team Rankings. Must have been a long time since the USA has been in the top 10.

Looking forward to the Team World Cup this week. The USA Women's team is seeded 7th and will have either China or Japan and either Egypt or Austria in their group. They should be able to advance to the Main Draw if they draw Egypt while a USA-Austria bout should prove interesting.

For the Men's team, they'll be grouped with either Germany or Korea and either Sweden or Brazil. Both Sweden and Brazil are missing their top player is Falck and Calderano respectively, so the USA definitely have Main Draw chances, (with Brazil being the better draw)

It's a shame the group stage will only live stream two tables and not all four tables. Given that this is a major tournament, I expected better coverage.

So it looks like Lily is going to skip the NA Open.  Perhaps she needs the rest (or really wants to save up energy to take the US Open :) ) ?  She's taking a slight gamble.  Currently the gap is 745 points.  Yue's current low is 340.  Even if she makes let's say the QF at the NA Open (not an easy feat even as a seeded player), she will have a net gain of 210 points (550 - 340) and closes the gap to 535.  There's still the TWC, Austrian and German Open.

There's no risk that Lily won't make the team.... she will.  The only question is who gets to play singles.  For me it's a no brainer that Juan and Lily should be in Women's Singles.  They are both clearly better than Yue (no offense, but results bear this).  But it would make it easier for the selection committee if the chosen player (Lily vs. Yue) has a higher World Ranking.  Lily still most likely will win the ranking race, but not attending the NA Open adds a bit of uncertainty.

Thanks for new information. At least 6 women are better than Yue Wu (ittf rank 37) in USATT rating. ITTF rating is a joke.
