I’m interested in hearing how an unboosted Hurricane 3 NEO commercial goes on the forehand of thick hinoki carbon blade. I have a 6.3mm hinoki-carbon blade (Joola Aruna Off+), with the same composition as the Primorac Carbon (Hinoki-Carbon-Kiri-Carbon-Hinoki), but it’s about 0.5mm thinner and therefore probably slightly slower and more controllable. I have found it difficult to control it with the Nittaku Fastarc G1 on the forehand and the Joola Rhyzm P on the backhand (both in Max), but the Fastarc G1 is nearly controllable on the backhand. Perhaps I should choose a hybrid rubber like the Nittaku Sieger PK50 for the backhand? Would an unboosted Hurricane 3 NEO for the forehand tame this monster carbon blade a bit? Silly of me for buying a carbon monster blade as a high amateur/low intermediate, but the handle is so comfortable, the feel is great and I don’t really want to buy a new blade. I have heard a lot of conflicting opinions about combining Hurricane 3 NEO with hinoki carbon blades. Some say the hard rubber / soft hinoki outer ply feels great and that the Hurricane ‘tames’ the carbon blade, other people (ie coach Emrathich from PingSunday ) say the hard unboosted rubber / stiff carbon blade combination is awkward, lacks dwell time/spin creation ability and that the speed of the combination prevents the player making big swings that make Hurricane so effective and fun to play with. https://www.google.com/amp/s/pingsunday.com/top-10-best-competitive-ping-pong-paddles/amp/ (Emratthich’s opinions on paddles combinations) I love looping with the Hurricane 3 Neo on my All+ 5 ply blade (for when I play modern defense). I want to be able to control big swing forehand top spins better. I normally play an aggressive two winged looping style and I am a non club high amateur/low intermediate. Does anyone have any experience with a thick Hinoki Carbon blade / Hurricane 3 Neo combination and can offer any advice? Thanks very much and I’m sorry for repeating such a discussed topic! |

Yinhe has blades of a similar composition as the Hinoki/Carbon/Kiri blades but with Cypress as a top layer. You can adjust the speed depending on what blade you buy:
T1s: Fastest T2s: A little slower, said to be the Primorac structure T6s: Still using Carbon, but slower than T2s (3 wood, 2 carbon) T7s: Using ALC instead of Carbon, slower than T6s (3 wood, 2 ALC) T8s: Faster than T7s (5 wood, 2 ALC) The T7s feels roughly as fast as a 7-ply Limba top PD-437 So you can buy the blade which has the speed you want.

Have you ever wondered about any super thick blade single Hinoki ply such as Darker Speed 90?

It absolutely works in my case. I do have a very nice fast but controllable blade that is the Garaydia ZLC however. Butterfly blades are generally too much money for what you get but in this case, I am so pleased with the setup I would make an exception. The slow speed of the Hurricane added to the fast but controllable Garaydia is a very sweet combination. Why are you even asking? The rubber isn't very expensive, just do it.

Not sure about carbon and H3. Always love H3 on Photino.

Thanks very much for your great answer. I’ve been finding it difficult to find info on unboosted Hurricane. I’ll give it a go soon.
