That's why I said: "Of course there is no guarantee you'll find this in all the expensive blades either". I've found the same problem with Stiga Energy Wood that I used for many years. I'm sure Stiga is not the only one either.

I my experience the Japanese-made blades have the highest quality control and consistency... but I certainly understand that not everyone is willing to pay for that.

5-10% is nothing to sneeze at. Getting up 100-200 rating points just by changing (and getting used to) a new blade? That's pretty good.

Raden said:  "There are thousands of blades on ebay selling between $20-$40 new."

============================================================

True.  I used to bid a lot on those blades.  Bought too many different kind of blades, and don't know what to do with them.  80% of the blades that I bought from eBay were from Bluemedi (no longer with eBay anymore.)  And about 20% blades were bought from other sellers.

I paid about $20 - $25 per blade.  Don't know if they are good or not.  I did donate one blade to a local unsanctioned tournament as a prize to the winner of the beginner's division (under 1000).

The very first picture seems to be too small to read:  It is Schildkrot Protec Carbon Attack.

The second picture of the blade above has 9 layers of wood and 8 layers of carbon - that's a 17 plies. Don't know how they make a 17-ply blade.

The last picture is a 1-ply Hinoki (reportedly it is actually a 1-ply pine.)

Yes, there are cheap blades around, some of them may be pretty decent.

Skip,
Did you try the 17ply blade? How did it feel? Is it extremely stiff?

No, I have not tried it, nor will I ever.
I have settled down on that 1-ply pine (I bought several of that too.) I like it.

If anyone interested in any blade that I posted above (all of them new, never used) can PM me, it will be sold at cost (at what I paid for.)

I tried that 1-ply pine as well. Mine had huge vibrations that continued well after I hit the ball.... I've never had a blade that came close to that level of vibration. Can't remember what rubbers I used.

==================================

I am a penhold player, I sawed off a section of the handle (don't need the handle that long), the blade suits me fine.  I have two identical setup of these 1-ply pine blades.

Have read about blade's "Balancing" and "Vibration" many times on this forum - darn, may be I am a low level penhold player (1700 level), I have never felt these two factors on any of the blades that I have  played.  May be higher levels players can feel them easily.

There are other players who also bought this 1-ply pine blades, as I won some bids but also lost some bids to other higher bidders.
==============================

Glade that I found out it was 1-ply pine not 1-ply Hinoki early on.
I almost sent JimT an email to apply for the membership of the 1-ply Hinoki club.

Had that happened, JimT would have written me back:  "Hi buddy, this is 1-ply Hinoki club not 1-ply Pine club."

Yeah, if you're a defender using a Primorac Carbon! (BTW, I met one -- not a pretty sight!) LOL

What I emphasize is that paying more money for a blade will (likely) not give you any more rating points -- however, if you're using the wrong equipment, it can make a significant difference as you noted.

some of the N-series blades are decent... but you might have a big swing in weights. I had an N-11 that was 77 grams (FL) and a N-11 that was 91 grams (ST).

http://www.tabletennis11.com/other_eng/tibhar-blade-samsonov-alpha#.UwBSD_ldWqs

my best cheap blade is at the moment the samsonov alpha; it is sold for $28 at tt11; it is maybe not fitting the topic since it is a famous blade however it is not very popular and deserves attention; I find it fantastic for the bh with lkt rapid speed; I can't miss on that wing with that rubber and blade; I have not tried the rhyzm on it for the fh but maybe will; I kind of inherited 2 of those (90 and 92 grams) and  even if the feel is very neutral (no "love at first shot", no "wow!" experience), the blade shines with the consistency of the shots. I remember I did not like as much those weighting in the low 80's; if somebody buys one I would recommend high 80's and softish not so slow rubbers for absolute control.

what i have not tried is the lkt rapid speed on the bh of my rossi emotion ; that's for next week. Big smile

samsonov alpha is extremely popular in the french table tennis halls. It's because it is not extremely new that there is no hype about it. Same for all great unexpensive classics:

Tibhar IV-L
Tibhar IV-S
Grubba all+
Primorac off-
Allround classic
Allround evolution
Appelgren Allplay
Yasaka Extra
...

In the Speed Glue + 38mm Erait was very rare to see other blades than these in table tennis halls. Still now they are more than good enough but some people prefer more speed and power. But that does need to be more expensive. YEO, JRE, Epox Offensive and Topspeed, Boll Forte, offensive classic, PG7...if you want even faster you can go for the Yinhe T-series.

Sorry this is all a bit off-topic...I will try to think about unreknown cheap blades that were not quoted yet here...
