In the wait for this to be released I got pretty dialed in with Mark V and a bit uneasy to spend any $$$ on rubbers that will become an EJ item.
Reviews would be helpful here. Anyone up for it? |

Just talked to ThaiLe at the club today. He told me that he was not quite impressed with Six Shooter Pre-tuned. He told me not to buy it. He may have the used one up for sell soon
ThaiLe, could you put some review?

Frankly after waiting so long, I started to look for other rubbers. Finally, I decided to go old school Mark V and glued it up with rubber cement in a few thin layers.
All I can say is it will take something pretty substantial for me to use something else. Mark V is so durable and so predictable... and affordable, and point generating. I just tried Hexer and after three or four sessions went back to Mark V. I don't want to knock Six Shooter Pre-tune since I haven't tried it. If anyone can compare to Mark V I would be grateful. |

I finally got to hit w/ Six Shooter pre-tuned today(once at school and once at the club) and, to say the least, I am extremely happy with it. I have it in red 1.8mm no weight because I don't have a scale. It should be noted that I am an amateur w/ no rating but I think I would be rated at least 1000 comparing myself against the rated players I've played.
The pre-tuned still has the same properties of the regular six shooter that we all love (or hate). Flat hitting, driving, and smashing w/ the pre-tuned has just as much control but all shots were faster than w/ the regular. I also feel that I can generate a little more spin on my serves and brush loops than w/ the regular. Blocking again is very controlled too, but this might be due to the fact that I'm using it w/ a 1.8sponge though. Personally for me I prefer Six Shooter pre-tuned to Outlaw, just because of the amount of control I get w/ the 6Shooter. Outlaw for me was unwieldy, too fast and not enough control. 6shooter is definitely not as fast as outlaw, but its speed is comparable to a regular 6shooter that has been speed glued (not saying it plays like a glued 6shooter, just the speed is close) Lastly I wanted to say that 6shooter pretuned feels dead all around when you first start hitting with it. But after a few hours of breaking it in, it absolutely starts to sing. I think that w/ 6shooter pretuned my EJing days are over, I love it. @dauntless: Unfortunately I've never played w/ Mark V so I'm unable able to compare the two. |

Dauntless - have you noticed that the more time you spend with Mark V, the better your
a) touch b) placement c) power d) spin gets? even as the rubber ages, not only does return of serve become easier (predictable) but also the familiarity of playing with the same sheet allows more precision, and allows you to (safely) attack with predictable results. I bet you simply win more points than with newer, "spinnier", "flashier" and more "high tech" rubbers :) True? |

Thanks for the review! Any idea on the hardness? How does it compare to IQUL or Venus? Is it showing any signs of wear yet? I'd like to see how durable it is. |

It is definitely softer than the regular. I believe the regular is around 41, the pretuned is only a tad softer so somewhere inbetween 38-39. And true to what zeropong says, it is soft but not mushy soft, it's still quite firm and springy.
I haven't played w/ an IQUL for at least a year now so I really can't say. I still have an IQUL attached to an old cpen, I'll give the old cpen a couple hits and report back. And I've never played w/ venus. After ~6hrs of play the 6shooter pre-tuned still looks brand new after cleaning w/ water and air drying (or rather me waving my blade in the air). There are a few spots (3 to be exact) where I can tell that I made contact with the ball. Going by appearance I think the pretune and the regular share the same topsheet. My sheet of regular sixshooter has seen its share of physical abuse: eating the edge of the table, rubber cement on the topsheet (comes off w/o a trace btw), and etc, but it's still intact and playable! So if the two rubbers share the same topsheet I don't think durability will be an issue. |

mf_fish, I'm assuming you play Shakehand. I play a one-sided jpen, so I can't comment on how well it would play on a backhand for SH.
