    Posted: 07/05/2007 at 6:44pm
I just got some rubber from Cole (thanks, Cole!), but I've never glied a rubber before.  All I have to glue it with is regular rubber cement (Ross brand, I think it is the same as Elmers).

It seems pretty thick.  Do I need to thin it some to use it?  I don't have any rubber cement thinner, but I do have some laquer thinner.  Would that work, and if so, how much should I thin it (ie, how many parts glue to one part thinner)?

TIA .

Rubber cement without thinning agents work fine. If you don't speed glue, then you won't need a alot of the rubber cement to get the sheet to stick to the blade. Just put a light to moderate coat on the blade and the rubber.

To make your life a whole lot easier I'd suggest you use some thinner. It also allows a more even spread of the glue for better adhesion.

To be honest I glue with speedglue for some of my friends to save me time and effort....even the thickness of Victory annoyed me.

Thanks for the input, guys.  I talked to Cole last night and he suggested that the rubber cement I have (came in a small plastic bottle) is not as good as the rubber cement I can get that comes in a metal can (which is thinner).

I will probably either thin what I have out some or just go get some better rubber cement.  The stuff I have only cost me $2 US.

BTW, I don't intend to speedglue, although the idea of EEII has got me interested.

I am thinking of putting my new rubber on with speedglue, and it may not be used for a week or 2. I don't care about the speedglue effect right now, just wanted to get the rubber on the blade. Yes, I could wait till I know when I'll be playing next, but I can't wait any longer to put the rubber on. I am a very impatient man.

If I put the rubber on 1st with only speedglue, am I doing this wrong?

Should I put on regular rubber cement glue 1st? THEN speedglue?

Seems like i only put the speedsglue on another blade quite a while back................. thanks
