I don't want woody feeling blade and numb feeling blade like Viscaria
(felt it was a bit bouncy and a bit slow), although loops were great and
controlled. I've also been using Yasaka Extra Offensive 7 Power and
although it's a great blade it lacks power especially away from the
table. I'm currently using HL5 and it's a fast blade but is a bit bouncy
for my taste and the BH flick is not so good.
I'm looking for a blade which is a controlled beast, which is fast enough from mid distance but is also great close to the table and is not super bouncy. Has a good dwell, has good speed and spin but is also has great control for short game. I mostly attack from my FH and do passive blocks and pushes on my BH, I also like to open with a push or flick from my BH. I'm currently looking at these 3 blades and want your feedback as to the pros and cons for each of these as per my playing style: XVP Carbonado 290 MJ ZLC So which of the above would suit me best? You can also recommend some other blade as well. Thanks in advance. Edited by unstopabl3 - 02/11/2017 at 3:29pm |

You need a hinoki carbon blade my friend. If you've never tried them, I'd say you should get yourself a Donic Ovtcharov Carbospeed. Edited by ronakvyas86 - 02/11/2017 at 12:06pm |

Yeah I've not played with hinoki blade yet, can you review the carbospeed in a few sentences? What's so good about it that the other blades I mentioned are not it's equal in your eyes? |

I've not tried the other blades. I've tried XVE, but I assume is different from XVP.
Anyway, Carbospeed is a 7mm thick (some say 6.9 but I like to round that up coz, what the hell) 5 ply blade with 2 layers of carbon, outer hinoki and kiri core. - The blade feels very solid. - It's fast, really fast. Donic calls it their fastest blade. - It feels very stiff, so it's not bouncy. Bounciness is a characteristic of flexy blades. - It feels soft (soft is not an opposite of stiff, it's the opposite of hard) during short game which is due to hinoki outers so control is good. Softness is gone when you hit hard (carbon layers). - Dwell is medium, that's a good thing coz it should be low for blades in it's speed range. - Medium hard high throw grippy rubbers (like baracuda) works well. - Quality is good. - Price is great |

Stiga Rosewood V and Clipper might provide what you are seeking for, since all wood blades have better feelings and control especially close to the table.
Yasaka Extra Offensive is also a fantastic blade for close-mid distance plays. If soft feeling is preferred, Butterfly Moonbeam should be suitable, good luck finding one.

Did you get a notification when I tagged you in this thread? No I've not tried it or read it's reviews, no one ever recommended it to me before lol Can you link me to a good review for it? What about from the blades I've mentioned in my first post, since you have vast experience with blades :P Thanks |

Barwell fleet is the blade with almost the best control close to table and powerful and spiny if needed. I think you can easily find many reviews on it. It used to be the No. 1 blade on TTDB until someone gave it a rating of 6 for reasons that I don't know.

Guess what blade I vote for..?
I believe it was one of the most used blades in one of the the recent European based championships... To me, it's the Golden Mean... |

What do you like about MJ ZLC? And what are some things which you don't like about it? Also why are you using Tenergy 80 with it, isn't it a bit slow? I know that loops with 80 are just a dream, but I must ask again, isn't it slow? Why would you tame this beast on purpose lol Edited by unstopabl3 - 02/11/2017 at 7:34pm |

Thanks, read that thread as well as a few other reviews online many good things have been said about this blade but I'm not too tempted with the whole 7 ply wood plus 2 ply glassfiber combination. |

Sounds like you want a stiff, but soft feeling blade.
Have you looked at Primorac Carbon or Joola Aruna Off/Rossi Emotion? The former is quite a bit faster, but they're both hinoki/carbon composites - I do believe hinoki outer blades may be what you are looking for. Andro Treiber Z is also a good shout. Edit: One guy I know (around top 50 in UK) uses the Aruna OFF, and he got like three of my friends to get them! The guy I always play in matches was one of them, and he swears by it, and he's a picky EJ What's wrong with Viscaria though? It's plenty fast for me, and you could easily get a TB ZLC for a less muted feeling.

From your choicew i would pick xvp.. It will feel dead at first but after a while you will fel a certain flex.. Good for mid distance controllable and loops and punches are really easy with this blade.

No negatives about the MJZLC for me. I like a direct feeling blade that gives what you put in without flex... MJZLC is not a beast; it is not a Primorac Carbon... T80 is not slow at all, it just has good low gears and some people don't play it to it's potential ... I also use T80 because I enjoy the feel and performance of it in all departments... I'm assuming MJZLC has more control than the Primorac Carbon and is better from mid distance? |

Control is a highly subjective phenomenon. For some, hard+flexy blades feel more controllable, some like stiff+soft blades (that's me), most defensive players like flexy+soft blades, hitters like hard+stiff blade. Manufacturers try to generalise "control" by labeling equipment with control rating. That's not how it works

Control is in the hands of the beholder...
Both MJZLC & Primorac Carbon (PC) are great from mid distance and have good control in the right hands... However, there is a big difference between MJZLC & PC... If you like a noticeably solid feeling blade you may like a PC - a genuine Off+ blade. You can get PC at 86g now and feel nice... For example, I know someone who uses an 86g PC with T25FX FH & T25 BH who loves the solid feeling blade and matched rubbers that suit his style... To me MJZLC is an Allround+ blade with reserve power, but that's because I am used to it... |

I've ordered MJZLC will get it in a few days, will post my findings soon.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, might try Primorac Carbon sooner or later but Vega Pro and Andro Treiber look like slow blades from what I've read so they might not be what I want. Anyways will try them as well sooner or later when I have extra cash :P Thanks again. |
