I read somewhere that the core layer of the viscaria is made of kiri. But at butteronline, it says balsa.
With the crisp sound of hitting a ball with viscaria, I think the core material should be hard, like kiri. Can anyone share his knowledge here? Thanks.

Same old Story again. It is Kiri and not Balsa.

Thanks, Timo.
This shows that how these manufacturers are so careless. They do not even bother to get the information right.

Haha, well at least Butterfly has corrected the "perfomance" error that has been there from the very beginning after 2 decades.
There have always been discussions regarding balsa or kiri core but i think when looking at the average weight of Viscaria compared to the thickness of the head it would be hard to reach ~90 gramms by replacing the core of kiri with balsa. Member Magic-M pointed out some days ago that it might be possible that the composition might be not Koto-ALC-Limba-Kiri-Limba-ALC-Koto and claimed it seems possible that it is this one in fact: Koto-ALC-Ayous-Kiri-Ayous-ALC-Koto I am really no expert regarding different woods but due to the fact Butterfly would have really many ALC blades with the same composition [TB-ALC - ZJ ALC (Blue Dragon) - TB Spirit - ZJ ALC] I personally think that he could be right in this case. Maybe someone will slaughter a worn out one in future and could tell more.... |

Whatever is the correct answer to the composition, we know that Butterfly will mention the correct thing in another 20 years or so. "Perfomance" is finally history. Kind of sad in a nostalgic sort of way.

May it be possible to have both, olders blades with Kiri and newer blades using balsa?
There are reports that older blades are heavier and slower while Balsa is a light and fast wood and may be the wood used nowadays. I'm just speculating based on other posters coments and this controversy about woods. Edited by Nasche - 06/15/2016 at 9:46am |

When did butterfly stop "perfomance"? That has been used as one of the criteria for authenticity
