After reading the ratings at Table Tennis Database and the description at Zeropong for 729 2.1mm OEM, I was expecting a light weight rubber. The 17cm x 17cm sheet (black with blue sponge) I received weights 63g uncut. To me, that does not fit within Zeropong's description of "extremely light weight" nor is it consistent with TTDB's weight rating of "2.6 - light."
Has anyone else bought a sheet lately? If so, was it lighter than the one I got? I was expecting something more along the lines of the 48g sheet of Focus III Snipe that I also bought from Zeropong. That, to me, is around what a light rubber should weigh. |

The blue sponge version is more like the original 729, harder and tackier than the white and orange sponged versions. I like the blue sponge version better but always get the white! Dissapointing.
The white sponge is soft and crumbly, it feels a bit weird as its a hybrid of a Euro rubber and a Chinese rubber |

Ian, thanks for the info. I guess getting the blue sponge is disappointing to me. I was looking for something 50g or less uncut. It's not that big a deal since it was only $5, but I wish Zeropong would market/advertise it correctly.
If you have a unused sheet of the other sponge version (and it's light), I'll trade you. :) Edited by Brainstorm69 - 02/10/2012 at 8:48pm |

I have used 729 to cover old blades that people use at the company TT table. The ones I have are about 63 gm and the black sheet has a blue sponge and the red sheet has a lighter red, almost pink, sponge.
The 729 OEM I have bought isn't that bad. One can loop pretty well with it. The problem is that the top sheet looks like crap after a few months but they still grip. It is more than good enough for the company players. I still have one red and black 729 OEM 2.1 left. I have never seen a white sponge version. Also, the black 729 OEM 2.1 with the blue sponge looks a lot like SST Pro Team. Both the top sheets and sponge look almost identical. The SST Pro Team sponge seems a little firmer and the SST Pro Team Top sheet looks shinier and more consistent. I have wondered if SST Pro Team rejects get sold as black 729 OEM 2.1. The weights of the two are about the same. |

Thanks for the additional info. It seems that 729 OEM 2.1 is not so light after all.
