    Posted: 03/18/2009 at 12:10am

Just getting back into regular playing again after a long absence.  I've never worked out with a robot, but would like to order one.  Which one is recommended and why?  I see there is quite a range in price.  Thank you. I don't know if it makes any difference what table you have?

Why do people say, "for a first robot?".  Seems like alot of people can afford one robot and one only.

Do you need a simple robot first to prepare you for a more complex?  I just don't know what different it could make.

I know if I bought a robot, I would get the NICEST one i could, even if it were my first.

Well in my point of view, "an 13 year old kid with few opportunities to make money" although Varghese has given me some (*wink*). I prefer a more basic first robot. Mine was also the Newegy 2040 until I upgraded to a different robot. It's just the way I buy stuff I guess, I do that with everything else including computers. Just my way and I like it like that =)

How do the robots differ?  Could someone give me an examples of what you get at different price points?  Thank you.

Here's a list of some basic differences

Amount of spin it's capable of putting on the ball.
Maxim speed
Maxim ball load
Hangs on table type or on wheels with a stand
40m ball or 38m ball

700$ should feed you a decent robot. Although if you got the money you could go hit the 1 grand range and get a much more decent one that will serve you all the way till the long range like "swiffers" prefer to do it.

Once thing to think about is - can the robot control speed and spin independently of each other?  The Newgy 2040 is a good starter robot with all the basics, but can't change speed separately from spin (so the faster the ball, the greater the spin).  This limits the kind of drills you can do.

If you're prepared to spend megamoney then you can go to the TTMatic or Butterfly Amicus ranges, which have multiple wheels, and can be pre-programmed to deliver a series of different balls in sequence for advanced drilling.

Rebel Heart....check out my review post on robots.  Many of your questions will be answered there. I will be happy to help you further after you check out my info on those robots. Selecting a robot to purchase is not an easy task, as they all have differences in ability, price, and functions.

Please use use the review post for further questions or comments. That way we can keep the discussion about robots more organized and quicker to find here on the forum.

check my link now.

bearT....   when you write out the url, highlight it then click on the U shaped arrow in the tool icons.  you will then paste the url in the box like when you are uploading a picture in your post.   Make sure you take off the http://  in the box where you add the actual url link.

I tried your link to the tinyurl url...but it was not a correct url.
