Has anyone played on the same table on both a concrete floor and a hardwood floor and noticed a difference? Could a difference in sound be perceived or interpreted as a tangible difference in tables?

I play normally on wooden floors or the rubber elastic ones like in the gymnasiums, I like the rubb floors more but wooden floors are ok

Thanks for the responses, guys. However, the question pertains mainly to if you detect a difference in a table (the same table) if it is on a wooden floor vs. being on a concrete floor (in a garage). This may be more of an audible difference and perception.

I think the tt ball is way too light and the table is way too solid for there to be any detectable audible differences. If you do find a difference, it may be other confounding factors such as the size of the room, air flow, etc.

I think (and hope) you're right. Here's the deal,... I spend a couple months trying to decide between the new Donic World Champion TC table and the Butterfly Centerfold 25 table. They're both made in the same factory and supposedly using the same top. The top surfacing paint / texture is debatable, though. This past weekend I played in a tournament where I played the whole day on a BTY, so in one day I got to play on both my Donic and the BTY tables. At the tournament, the BTY is in a large gymnasium on a hardwood floor. The BTY table sounds very solid. But when I get home and use my Donic, it sound much less solid. It is in my garage on a concrete floor. I'm just hoping my ears are playing tricks on my brain (associating room acoustics with "solid" or "inferior" table characteristics). It was just bothering me because that's something I was expecting to have with my new table, and it's not easy to do a comparison between these two tables all in one day. My Donic plays well, though, and I don't mean to indicate that it's not good. In fact, the quality is top-notch, and I couldn't be more impressed with it. Another reason I chose it over the BTY is because the gray Donic paint scheme of the support carriage matches my garage floor, whereas the red BTY undercarriage is distracting on anything except the official Gerflor.

Chances are that a concrete floor is not going to muffle sounds as well as a wood floor, so it probably wouldn't sound as solid on concrete. You will be able to hear all table sounds better and they won't be as "soft" sounding. That may be part of the problem.

Now the question are they using a concrete floor at the 49 WTTC or wooden floor?

I don't know about that one! I was talking to a veteran player today (the head of one of the larger distributors here in North America), and he was saying the same thing the wooden floor and acoustics in the larger gymnasium versus the small garage with concrete floors. Sometimes the different sounds play tricks on the mind.

I have a Butterfly table in my garage on concrete floor. It was an expensive table when it was new, but now it's probably 12 years old.
When the garage is closed it sounds okay. When the garage door opens, it sounds like a cheap table. In my case it's just the acoustics. |

I probably have the same table, too. I have a 12-15-year-old BTY Europa stationary that I bought from my club and a friend wanted to buy it off of me. (I needed to get a roll-away, anyway, so I thought as long as I got a buyer.) Anyway, come to think about it, I think this old Europa sounded better back at our club in the gym on the wooden floors and in my garage it sounds like a cheap Stiga from the local sports store.
