this is what distinguishes potential greats to proven greats.  the former will have many unexpected losses.

Beating Chinese is the norm for Ito Mima at the moment. She is absolutely
on fire. She has now beaten 5, 6 cnt players in a row, Wang Manyu, LSW, CXT, Gu Yuting, just to name a few.
The serve and banana flick are deadly.

They are all there.

Click groups. (Open the drop-down windows, then choose an event)

or Click "Knock outs" (what you initially see is "Final", here you can click "Preliminary")
(Open the drop-down windows, then choose an event)

By my count it's more than once. Beating LSW, Wang Manyu and Chen Xingtong over the period she did counts for a lot. Gu Yuting is up and coming and just adds to it all.

I am skeptical though because of the serve and receive basis of her advantages and the high risk style but if she wins a few more I just have to accept the bottom line.

When Gu Yuting serves to Ito's FH, Ito's side spin return gets the point every time.
Gu Yuting just doesn't how to return that kind ball.

This is really exciting for Japanese table tennis and for table tennis in general!  For so many years, China seemed unbeatable (with exceptions of course).  Now Kasumi and Mima (and Harimoto on the Men's side) are getting really good results. Very happen for Japan.

Unfortunately, they play each other in the Women's QF Cry

or...fortunately they play each other...that will provide a semi final spot for the winner instead of a possible loss for both in the quarter.

I suppose so, but as a fan, I would like to see both of them square off against the top Chinese players.  Also, I think exposure to top Chinese players for both is more important than QF vs SF.

of course but looking at the numbers only, it looks like easy wins...or big defeats on the other sides. I did not see those matches.

What hell, they all got sluggish and drowsy...

Summer time is when most of civilians are looking to have a good vacations on the sunny beach...   having a lot of kife.
Pingpang players are no exception. They need a summer break, and they denied of the break. To be a pro player is just a "payed slavery", you get some money and no vacations.
Little wonder, all players would got sluggish at summer time.   Players need a good vacation rather than prize money.

Those stale boys and girls with unhappy pale'faces is a sore spectacle, sorry.
