Wow Shibaev was on fire today... Games 2 and 3 were super close though. But he clearly knows a thing or two about playing defenders. Given that he grew up in Russia/former USSR where we always had lots of choppers Ma Te's loss was not a huge surprise to me.

You don't necessarily need overwhelming power like XX (nice to have of course!).  You need power to finish the point once you're in control and that's what WCT did in the links I posted.  You said he lacks power vs. defense.  But as you can see in my links, he has good enough power to finish the point (... he has more power than Samsonov who plays better against defense).  He lost most of his points on his control/touch shots.

WH did not lack power vs. defense, and he had quite good touch.  And he's playing Joo who was a top notch defender with a very good forehand.

Ok we can go on but should let it go.  While whatever you said about his loss is probably true (I didn't see the whole match) and he might be able to finish some points I still don't see him as adequate.

With their stars hanging out in Los Angeles, the Chinese men can't even place a single player in the quarterfinals. By contrast, there may well be another all-Chinese women's semifinal.

this is mysterious to me. I know that Gauzy hates him and said something like "...that's why everybody hates him on the tour." but I do not know what was his behavior and the pattern associated to it, can you tell? I find him doing things we can't learn, like being natural, maximizing fluidity and knowing in advance what to do: a real all time best potential combo. I understand something came to pollute that and I don't know what it is. So many cocky players are around, what's wrong with being cocky? that's all I see in him.

Why isn't there any sound from the game? I don't mind Adam, but do they have to kill the sound for him? As soon as he starts to comment, there is no more sound from the game - the sound of the ball hitting the table, sound of the racket hitting the ball, players cho, etc. Adam gets very redundant very soon, and I would rather have the sound of the game than his rambling.

Boll is a real champion: tactically, technically and most of all...mentally.

Lee screamed, Lee hit hard, Lee led.....and Lee lost...
