Yes, Hayata and Miwa's brother have already qualified for singles and team events by winning the 2022 LION CUP TOP32. The top 2-8 finishers were invited to play in this one, but Niwa and Ueda turned it down. Togami, M. Yoshimura, Matsushita and Kato were selected by recommendation.

On the 8th, Nagasaki and Shinozuka withdrew and replaced by Namba and Yoshiyama. On the 9th, Arinobu withdrew and not replaced.

The list of players was published on 3/15 and Uda's match with Boll was at 21:00 on 3/14. Too late to change, perhaps?

It's not necessarily a bad thing, as Uda made up his mind about playing the Bundesliga after the Lion Cup ended. The Asian Games 2022(9/10-25) and WTTC 2022(9/30-10/9, originally 4/17-26) will be held back-to-back now. Since he won't be playing in either, he can focus on the Bundesliga.

Rui Nakazawa is so good. His work with Kihara speaks for itself.

Yes, looks like Miu Hirano is making all the right moves.  Changed sponsors to Kinoshita Group (so I assume she'll be with Abyell along with Kihara and Ishikawa?).  Now seen coached by her former coach, Rui Nakazawa:

Kihara 4-2 Ito
Ito is out of the singles race.
G4 was the turning point. Kihara managed to get past Ito's serve and Kihara's advantage in the rallies sealed Ito's fate.
Hirano 4-2 Sato
Winner between Kihara and Hirano will join Hayata and play in the singles event of Asian Games 2022.

Togami 0-1, 1-1, 3-1, 3-3, 4-3 Oikawa
Togami will finish at least 2nd now that he's taken 1 game.
Togami will finish 1st now that he's taken 2 games.
Togami's nets and edge hits in G7 did it.
M. Yoshimura 4-1 Matsushita
Winner between Togami and M. Yoshimura will join Miwa's brother and play in the singles event of Asian Games 2022.

Hirano 4-0 Kihara
G4 9:0, 9:1, 11:1.
Avenger Hirano: This is payback for All-Japan Championships 2019, and 2021 and 2022 LION CUP TOP32.

Togami 1-3, 3-3, 3-4 M. Yoshimura
G5 8:10, 14:12
G6 7:3, 7:4(Togami's service fault), 7:7, 8:7, 8:8, 9:8, 9:9, 10:9, 10:10(Togami's service fault), 11:10, 11:11, 13:11
G7 1:0, 1:1, 4:1, Yoshimura's TO, 4:2(Yoshimura's net), 5:2(Togami's edge), 5:3, 6:3, 6:5, 7:5, 7:11. 6 in a row.
Togami has got to fix that point-streak behavior.
Another point of note. Yoshimura played 1 match less both yesterday and today and Togami had less than an hour to rest after 4-3 Oikawa.

Tieba users are contemplating now.

For Ito, not winning Lion Cup hurts a little, but not making Asian Games singles hurts a lot, considering she refuses to play the T.League.

For Hirano, reaching the QF would put her on an equal footing with Sato, and reaching the SF would put her even above Hayata. The biggest problem for her right now is her world ranking.

After Lion Cup
Hayata 50
Nagasaki 45
Kihara 40
Sato 35
Ito 30
Ishikawa 25
Hashimoto 20
Hirano 15

Asian Games singles
W 80
F 60
SF 40
QF 20
R16 10
R32 5

Congratulations to both Yoshimura and Hirano. Haven't watched it yet but Hirano winning 4-0 is quite the statement. Changing her environment has already really paid off.

We've got a long road ahead of us, but so far HH looking good to take 1 spot with the other 2 up for grabs. Kihara is really on the rise making a statement by beating Mima Ito. And now after a rough start to the year, Hirano takes a singles spot next to HH at the Asian Games.

Just finished watching Hirano vs. Kihara.  Kihara never looked comfortable from the very beginning.  She actually made some fantastic points the 1st 3 games.  She normally is very vocal when she makes these points, but I noticed she was silent this time.  Maybe she was tired from all the tournaments she's been playing, or maybe she was a bit spooked by seeing coach Nakazawa on the opposing bench.  Miu Hirano turned into Wonder Woman in game 4 with an 11-1 beat down.  Even when Kihara tried to exploit Hirano's wide forehand with her backhand punch, Hirano was ready for it.  So Hirano beats Ishikawa 4-0, 11-3 in the 4th and now Kihara 4-0, 11-1 in the 4th..... what a way to announce her arrival to her new T-League teammates LOL.

Here's their match:

is Rui Nakazawa still with JOC/EA ?
There was a staff change beginning of April. I see a EA staff coaching Kihara, and Nakasawa coaching Hirano with Kinoshita affiliation.

Day 1 interviews

A leopard can't change its spots. Same reflections every time and then the same thing next time. How many next time does Ishikawa have left?

https://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/202204090000785.html

It took Hirano long enough to realize that it has nothing to do with skills.

Ito says she is in fantastic form.

Day 2 interviews

It's been a while to see Hirano mention self-confidence and winning attitude.
Hirano: If I could play like that, I could compete with CNT players. As I played a match that made me think I could win, I plan to win the Asian Games.

https://rallys.online/topic/domestic/220411-hiranomiucomment/
Quote

Kihara says she had always won and played like usual mentally and tactically but Hirano pulled off a remarkable strategy and she just broke down like that. On Ito, she took the initiative in serve and 3rd ball as planned, and it was great she came out on top in BH-to-BH exchanges.

Quote 2

Ito admits "complete defeat". Both of them are in good form and Kihara is on top in serve, receive and rally. She praises Kihara has become stronger and her odds are increasing when playing CNT players, Hayata and the like and it wouldn't be strange for her to lose in straight games. Rather, it would've been unbelievable if she won.

https://www.daily.co.jp/general/2022/04/10/0015208203.shtml

https://www.ittf.com/2022/04/29/ittf-approves-changes-world-ranking-regulations/
Quote The Executive Committee has agreed to the following recommendations:

Total removal of the “initial points”

In 2020, a transition phase was implemented to adapt the Ranking to the new WTT events’ structure. Thus “initial points” were introduced, adding a fixed number of points to the best eight results gained; the initial value was 80 per cent of a player’s total points in December 2020.

Due to Covid-19 and the difficulty to organise events, the “initial points” were maintained for a longer period and reduced at a slower pace. As of January 2022, they had been reduced to 20 per cent.

The total number of events in 2021 and 2022 has afforded players the opportunity to gain ranking points. Removing the “initial points” allows players who performed well in recent tournaments to climb the listings and gain entry to higher tier events.

Extension of the validity of all points gained during 2021 senior events

Considering the remaining challenges to travel and compete, as well as the limited number of top-tier events, it has been decided that points awarded at 2021 senior events have their validity extended and shall expire at the earliest on 2023 – week one. The final duration regarding these points will be determined by a resolution of the WRWG before Sunday 1st January 2023.

Restriction of the number of youth events counting towards the senior ranking

Accounting for the fact that on average, youth players have competed in more events than senior players this year and last, only a maximum of four youth events shall count towards a youth player on the senior ranking; this will be reviewed by the WRWG on or before Sunday 1st January 2023.

The changes will come into effect as and from the “2022 ITTF Table Tennis World Ranking – Week 18”; available on Tuesday 3rd May here.

The total removal of initial points will really shake up the rankings.  I think Darko and Truls will make the top 10.  Qiu Dang, Kallberg, LJH, should get good bumps as well. LGY, WCT, Falck, and Koki Niwa I think will drop significantly.  On the women's side, WYD should move up to 4, HH to 5, and Mima to 6.  I think Han Ying, Kihara, YXX, Liu Weishan, Jia Nan Yuan, Shin Yubin, Kuai Man should get good bumps.  I think FTW, CXT, CIC, Miu Hirano, Hitomi Sato, He Zhuojia will drop significantly.

The biggest problem is that this year is looking really poor for Senior Pro Tournaments..... just a few Feeder and Contender tournaments remaining on the event calendar.  After the Singapore Smash, there has not been any other Smash events scheduled, and there hasn't been a single WTT Champions tournament at all.  Hopefully, this changes; otherwise, this year is looking really bad except for the World Teams Championship.

Edit: Looks like zeio fixed it to show actual projected rank.

For those observing this thread, zeio's post is a sampling of just the top 100 so some will not necessarily end up with the above rank.  It's where they would rank if only looking at the top 100.  For example, Zhu Yuling, who will end up with zero points, won't end up in the 90s.  Actually, I don't think she'll be ranked because it looks like you have to have at least 1 point.  Also, some currently out of the top 100 will jump into the top 100.  For example, Kuai Man is currently at 102 with with 746 points. Her Initial Points (136) will go away leaving her with 610 points so she should end up in the low 30s.

Fixed(sort of) the Week #18 ranking. Went through 754 places for men and 630 places for women. The points for recent events are listed above the initial points and that messed up the calculations, requiring an extra step of processing. Same thing for those without any initial points. Restriction on youth events is still not accounted, so the junior players with more than 4 youth events are off.

It's now inline with what I have with the exception that I have Juan Liu tied with Liu Shiwen at 175 points.

Updated the ranking again. The entire ranking lists for both men(1799 places) and women(1312 places) were processed. Juniors with more than 4 youth events are still off(have yet to come up with an simple way to process them) but seniors should be fine.

Hina now ranks no 5  in the world and is the highest ranked Japanese women player. I have Been saying since 2018/2019  that she should have been picked ahead of the likes of Hirano, Ishikawa, Sato and Kato Miyu. She has been vindicated !.

Vindicated? Far from it. Hayata is still the biggest "loser" here. After putting in so much work in 2021, what has she got in return? Her career high ranking is as good as useless if not for the Asian Games which will THEORETICALLY get her an extra 40 pts in the race. The only other times world ranking will come into play are the WTTC 2023 and ATTC 2023. However, by that time(see below quote), her current points will start to expire/have expired. Even then, she will still have to win/finish high in the Paris 2024 Qualifier #4 and/or #5 to earn 1 of the 5 singles spots.

She is vindicated in the sense that she is now recognised as one of the best 2 players in Japan, the other one is Ito. She didn't get the recognition she deserved back in 2019 because of her low ranking.  Should have been an automatic selection for the Japanese team back in 2019.

She may be OFFICIALLY the highest-ranked now, but to be recognized as one of the best 2? Not that easy. The standard now is far higher than it was in 2019.

She needs more titles. That's why I listed them in my last post.

Ito is 10-dan(not official yet) for being Olympic Champion.
Ishikawa is 9-dan for being World Champion.
Hirano and Hayata are both 8-dan for being Asian Champions.

I think given her more chances to participate in more events (damn Covid), Hayata definitely has more potential to grow!
