Uda and Togami should take note here. The whole match, especially G3 where Shinozuka 1:5 CCY was an excellent example of "making your opponent uncomfortable first."

Japan is guaranteed to take the title in WS, MD and has a good shot at MS and WD titles. Mori and Sasao are T-League teammates though don't normally play doubles together. Asuka Sasao has the unfortunate prospect of playing doubles, wait for MD to finish, and then play a very tough defender... her compatriot Haruna Ojio. [ Edit: Shinozuka also has to play doubles, wait for WS, and then play MS ... though not against a defender]

Shinozuka just oozes talent. England has a good one in Jarvis as well.

Watching Asuka Sasao to beat Ojio the chopper in TTA live, I am pretty sure they have played each others for many times. Ojio literally destroyed Lily Zhang and Chen SeYu(Taiwan) 4-0.
If someone is playing Ojio for the first time, she can be a super confusing player to play against. Judging from Asuka playing strategy, she knew exactly when to soft loop, push, or loop/smash kill at each ball, she must know Ojio game inside out. |

That is often the case when a chopper and an offensive player often train together, even at a lower level

In his first match against Kao Jarvis got yellow card for wiping hands on table then red card and 2 points was added to Kao because Jarvis keep wiping hands on tables. But referee changed this decision and 2 points was taken back from Kao. What interesting Jarvis keep wiping his hands in all next matches.
Also for some reason referee didn’t let to Kao coach video recording Edited by piligrim - 05/09/2022 at 4:02pm |

Hi
It is WTT decision to prohibit any video recording except WTT designated staffs. all other players were not allowed to record their own matches neither. (Not to mention us as spectators). Klhfans

The "wiping hands on tables" is a Covid-19-sourced restriction, as is the prohibition of players wiping wet spots off that are on the table. All informed, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), acknowledges the transmission vector for this virus is via aerosol; tiny tiny non-visible-to-the-human-eye droplets in the air. Object surface transmission is not a transmission vector. Many are way behind the science, still functioning within the superstitions, with the table tennis authorities among the lagging leaders. Thanks.

Nice win for Lily over Li Yu Jhun of Taiwan. [Edit: And now she takes down CSY of Taiwan]. SYB denied again by Japan. This time by Haruna Ojio.
Uda playing his compatriot Jo Yokotani right now. He's playing a lot better than at Fremont.

It is a big win. Ranking doesn't necessarily indicate playing level, and we all know the Japanese women are only 2nd in level to the Chinese. Sasao won Fremont beating players like Britt Eerland (and again here), Ojio, and Shin Yubin so you know she has to be good. Lily beat CSY and now a very good Japanese player in Sasao. Granted Sasao is probably a bit mentally tired which is normal after winning a tournament, but this was a very good win for Lily.

I'm sorry but Sasao is a nobody in Japan. She's not even a reserve member of the JNT.

I think that speaks to how good the Japanese women have become. Given enough tournaments, the women's rankings would be dominated by the top Chinese and top Japanese. Even NT candidate, Sakura Mori, has twice lost to Haruna Ojio so you can still be a really good player and not make the candidate list.
Even if she *should* win, I still think it's a big win for Lily because she hasn't had the greatest of results and this will help give her a boost of confidence from an athletic standpoint not to mention it's obviously been tough financially for USA table tennis players to make a living.

Yes indeed, that is why she wore BTY clothes and not the traditional Mizuno shirt from the JNT. She also had to finance her journey to the USA for those 2 weeks. At least, she was able to get some money back :))

Hi,
Point one: A confident understanding of the Japanese table tennis system ensures that all the selected-few-out-of-many Japanese players for these expensive trips have produced impressive results in Japan in the eyes of the authorities who control the applicable funds. All these Japanese players are very good players, earning the opportunities on the world stage, worthy of investment as indications of their individual current competencies and potential. Point two: With the highly visible pronounced segment of very formidable chopper/defenders in the women's game, found both extensively in Europe and in Asia, it is strikingly unbecoming for a putatively professional women's player to not be fully prepared, always, for these confrontations. Thanks.

She largely needs to play in a league or on a team where Choppers feature regularly so she has one as a practice partner. Without that, at this point, it is almost too late.
