WT SF
KOR vs JPN
SYB 0-3 Hayata
711
611
61, 811

JJH 3-2 Hirano
311
93, 95, 106, 109 TO for JJH, 1010, 1110, 1112, 1412 two nets in a row for JJH

03, 13, 16, 26, 27, 47, 411. A few crucial nets for Hirano
40 Hirano served off the sideline, 41 sideline edge for Hirano, 61, 62, 92, 93, 103, 106, 116

SHW 0-3 Harimoto
31, 611
31, 42, 43, 63, 66, 86, 88, 98, 99, 109, 1012
13, 33, 35 net for Harimoto and TO for SHW, 49, 410, 510, 511

Conspiracy theorist mode:
Hirano 2-3 JJH so that Hirano 3-1 SYB

This is what yours truly has been looking for. The ability to hit that extra gear in an adverse situation.

Hirano 4 H2H 2 JJH

Hirano 1 H2H 1 SYB (I think Hirano has lost a few times once in T.League)

Hirano: The future is yours.

Cheerleader Kihara: I yelled my lungs out!

Hirano: I lost on purpose.

Watanabe: Don't scare me like that, girl.

Watanabe: I was right to pick up the women's team.

Freeloader Kihara: Silver medal getto!

It's pretty clear they want to give Harimoto as much experience as possible, in case Ito chooses to opt out of WT if she loses the WS race. They need a valid reason to give Harimoto the preference as the 3rd member for WT when they announce the lineup next year.

Makes sense! At this point they should just not include Ito. If she doesn’t make it to the Olympic single she most def will be out (chose to retire early?)

It also makes sense for choosing the reserve position I think even if Ito agrees.  Picking Harimoto as reserve will be leapfrogging the Miyus.

Why isn't Korea using Jang Woojin??
Is he injured?
If it's a play on the surprise factor, Is Korea better off without him on the squad??, Maybe play him against FZD or ML instead of WCQ since I don't think he's met either of them a lot in the past 3 years.

He is probably injured but his one sided style makes him extremely susceptible to China anyways.

His style can work a shock win against FZD. it won't happen a lot but he has definitely has a chance. The all out turn the corner forehand attack works sometimes for ML.

ML had a much better and stable backhand than JWJ.  It's not apples and apples. In fact, for efficiency, it is hard to beat ML. JWJ isn't bad, it is just that you feel too much safer when the bal is on his backhand and he doesn't pivot and if you survive the pivot, you get the advantage even if he makes it hard with his footwork to finish it.

I get you, but thinking in percentages, who's more likely to claim an upset, Park Ganghyeon or Jang Woojin??
If the lefties were here, then I'll have no qualms with swapping Jang for either of them, since their games are not as well known as Jang's. Even An Jaehyun is not better than Jang Woojin on their best days, JWJ should have played with the squad on hand, maybe he's just injured.

I am pretty sure Park is a lefty, he must have won some internal battle over Cho Daesong and Cho Seungmin or maybe those guys are injured too.

As for the JWJ vs AJH debate, I usually agree with you, but the WTTC 2019 result had an interesting answer to that question (which I have argued that should have been reversed though there are good reasons for the actual result)...  but yes, it is likely JWJ is injured more than anything else.  Hopefully the news will settle it.

I love the way the articles point out that the lowest ranked player on the CNT is ranked higher than the highest ranked player on the Korean team.  LJH pretty much conceded the match and said he would sleep well at night before the match vs China.  Maybe JSH wanted to play a gambit and reserve JWJ tactics for the singles event.  We will see...

I'm not in the liberty to say, since this isn't for public information.
Chen is the next best pairing for Lin, since this was Lin's decision.
Chen accepted Lin's invitation.

Chen is also not 100% fit most of this year. The days when Lin and Chen are doing well, people tend to forget.

People are quick to judge Chen, Chen can easily refuse to pair with Lin, and Lin would had to settle with someone else - I doubt that is what Lin's fan would want either.

End of the day, many countries have strong men's player, but not strong enough women's player. Mixed doubles event is very hard to contest because of that.

Zeio, do you think Tasei's position is in jeopardy after the men's team loss?

From past experience, unlikely. Treat this as WTTC 2018. Their ultimate goal is Paris 2024. 2022 was a fantastic year to cover Tasei's ass.

But Miyazaki and Baba have got to rethink if they should proceed with the current selection system in the next cycle. Hirano almost dropped out of the race at the end of last year, yet she turned out to be their best chance against China (best stats, too). Unlike the women, Miwa's brother having to fend off his teammates who take pride in beating him instead of focusing on their international results is just sad.
