Crazy how things fall into place and often fall apart, WCQ was fortunate that during his ascendency the CNT decided to be more transparent and equitable in their selection process, and look how he's fudged his chances up with his performance at the Asian cup and the Asian championships. I don't think the coaches will forget this in a hurry, I think most of us were almost certain  that Ma Long will be playing in a team role at the Olympics. Ma Long may just be in contention for the singles spot regardless of what the standings say now.

I believe he's given a serious dent to his Olympic chances depending on his results at the Asian Games.

@troubadour (and others):
Next time please don't "quote" a post that has a dozen images in it - just use "reply" to respond and add your comment. Thanks!

Does this mean Ito gained more points due to her luckier draw and got one round further than Hirano?

Yes, Ito has closed the gap from 30.5 to 10.5 pts after this. 40 pts for QF vs 20 pts for R16.

Had Mukherjee A (she an Ito's fan?) not choked by blowing the 2-0 lead plus 4:0 head start in G3, Ito would've been down by 50.5 points after Asian Games, where Hirano would likely widen the gap with at least 20 pts.

Miu Hirano will have a chance to increase the gap again at the Asian Games (leftover from 2022) near the end of September:  R16 - 10 pts, QF - 20 pts, SF - 40 pts, Finalist - 60 pts, Winner - 80 pts.

What's Hirano's chance of reaching the quarterfinals? Is it the same field in Pyeonchang that's competing at Hangzhou??

I fear despite the effusive praise for Miu recently, she's somehow allowed Ito back into contention. If Ito and some of the other players ahead of her are not playing, then she should reach the best of 8 at least. Hopefully luck falls on her side and she gets Da Di or Sha Sha.

In singles it's 2 players per country so for the Japanese women, it's Miu Hirano and Hina Hayata.  For China, I believe it's SYS and WYD (according to China announce table tennis squad for Hangzhou Asian Games ).  She should have a lot of confidence beating SYS in the finals of WTT Contender Zagreb.

How? Asian game is over for her already, no? She lost both WD and WS? Sorry if I missed anything.
