MD F
ML/WCQ vs FZD/LGY
911
114
911
910, 1311
30 TO for FZD/LGY, 44, 47, 77 LGY blew that fade flick, 78 LGY made amend with that BH loopkill, 88 LGY missed that FH short push, 89 ML missed the FH loop on FZD's spinny push, 810 WCQ missed the chiquita, 811. And WCQ swatted that last ball away!

You gotta be very uninterested to sleep among that crowd.

Fan Zatoichi Dong: Believe!

LGY: Believe!

Still not happy.

JWJ: Let me crack you up.

This is KOR, no place for JPN.

ML: This good-for-nothing.

Believe!

LGY: Gotta pay tribute to heaven.
WCQ: Even heaven doesn't like me?

Unable to watch the women's final, but happy to see Manyu win something.
Please if anyone @zeio @pongfugrasshopper @Tony's Table Tennis and anyone else can help me with a Chinese, korean, or Japanese livestream of the semifinal and final matches tomorrow. I'll be very grateful. Tomorrow could be something historic, best to watch it live.

Quote Harimoto/Hayata on 0-3 LGY/WYD, and that the bandaged wrist had nothing to do with injuries or the results
https://weibo.com/2011739333/Ni4NMzGJu

Turns out he injured somewhere around his thumb during warmup on the day of MT (not specified but 9/4, which would explain why he skipped the position matches against KAZ and IRI the next day), that it would be a lie if it did not affect him, but whether it be techniques, tactics, psyche as well as injuries, it is his responsibility.

On 1-3 Noroozi, Harimoto said he felt ok during practice but things were still different in the match, and he couldn't handle Noroozi's serve in their first encounter. He praised Noroozi for having very good serves and making few errors in the rallies.

Harimoto says his confidence in playing good matches when in form remains strong, but outside of that there are many immaturities and areas to pay attention and he wants to prepare well for the Asian Games.

Quote ■

Interesting insight from Tanaka on 3-2 WCQ. He expresses his gratitude to his physiotherapist 香川英信/KAGAWA Hidenobu for body maintenance and bench coach 李龍£/Li Longfei for game plan. On perfectly handling WCQ's shovel serve at 12:12 in G2, Tanaka says that in the MT match between Harimoto and WCQ, he learned that the shovel serve was mostly topspin, and while he was prepared, that turned out to be case in the match. He is glad that intel proved useful. Even though he wasn't as confident in the rallies, they were easier to handle than he imagined and that gave him confidence. (Interestingly, Togami felt the same about WCQ after WTTC 2021.)

Quote ■

Ma Long was thoroughly prepared for the long serve to the backhand and middle today, I'm surprised to see LYJ attempt that much after the first couple of serves didn't work as he wanted in the 2nd and 3rd set, I was expecting a closer contest. The 2nd and 3rd set was a battle of wits, the backhand wide to the forehand came to ML's rescue a lot. An efficient way to open the game up away from LYJ's backhand strength.

I found it depressing to be honest, that LYJ was so thoroughly contained by that game plan given how well he usually plays against ML and how old ML is.  Is there no hope to beat these CNT tactics?

MS F
FZD vs ML
45, 55, 56, 76 epic block from FZD on ML's FH pivot flick-kill, 711. 5 in a row for ML.
01 TO for FZD, 02, 22, 23, 93, 94, 104, 105, 115. Critical TO for FZD, he lost 6 in a row from the end of G1, had to break ML's streak at all costs. That's how he always lost the initiative to ML.
01, 31 slight net for FZD, 32, 42 FZD saves a slight net and BH loop parallel instead, 44, 54, 55, 65, 66 surprise FH push-to-flick from FZD but ML saves it, 67, 77, 97 FZD pins ML to the middle and backhand so ML couldn't pivot, 117
01, 21 FZD clipped the net with that FH pivot, 23 slight net for ML, 24 long serve from ML, 26, 36, 38 dead net for ML, 39, 49, 410, 510, 511
10, 11, 21, 22, 32, 34, 44, 46, 56, 58, 68, 611

ML is fortunate to have FZD and Tanaka.
WCQ: Jots down Tanaka on "Entity List".
Tanaka: What have I done?

WH eats into ML's era just as ML eats into FZD's era. Will FZD eat into WCQ's era? (Looking up WCQ's DOB...) Never mind.

Ma Zatoichi Long

WH: 坐山觀虎鬥 is so fun.

LJK: I'm here for the bronze.

LYJ: Only 2 CNT players at Asian Games. Podium finish secured.

FZD: My target is WCQ.

ML: I'm back.

ML: I surrender.

China: Mapping of East Asia complete.

A big thank you to ATTU and KTTA for geo-blocking this amazing event.

Ma Long...nearly 35....winning what is probably the thoughest competition  with the WTTC and the Chinese championships....and winning 3-2 Vs FZD (n°1 with a big margin)....Nothing more to add.

There is hope, only that for the hope to become a reality; everything has to fall in place.
This particular match was decided mostly in the first 3 balls, LYJ wasn't as careful as ML and things just fell apart quickly. Plus his forehand wasn't up to the task today ( he couldn't get anything much despite barraging ML's backhand, and he hastened to attack because he was desperate).
The match ML Vs LJH in the WTTC was also a masterclass in how to guard the opening exchanges in the right direction. LJH and LYJ should not be bagelled on a normal day.

For a World No 1, FZD makes a lotta errors on receive. The errors coated him against Alexis Lebrun, almost cost him against LYJ a few days ago but he somehow escaped, but ML didn't let him get away with it today.

Changing topic somewhat, Wang Manyu and Fan Zhendong are often called players not respected for their doubles play, despite being World Championship winners in doubles (the titles are often attributed to the impact of their great partners).  Do their titles here affect that assessment or is it still unchallenged?
