    Posted: 03/23/2007 at 1:48am
Please follow the guidelines here:

1)   Tags:  (Please use the appropriate topic tag to precede the item title, for uniformity)
  • FS:
  • FS/FT:
  • FT:
  • LF:
**(Acronyms: FS-for sale, FT-for trade, LF-looking for)

2)  Sellers must set a price for any FS items.  We are not an auction

site.  Threads that fail to adhere to this will be deleted after a

warning.

3)   Guidelines for comments and replies to threads in this section:
  • Out-of-context posts will be removed.
  • Comments or questions about the item itself are ok but sometimes negotiations and comments about a particular item can be handled more discretely by PM.
  • DO NOT CRITICIZE PEOPLE'S ASKING PRICE.
  • DO NOT ADVERTISE YOUR ITEM IN SOMEONE ELSE'S THREAD.
4)   Close thread: (after the item has been sold/traded)
  • Make it known that the item is no longer available editing the title in the top thread by replacing the tag with "SOLD:...".
5)    Business owners who want to advertise or sell products should do so by purchasing a banner, not through a thread.  Advertising is defined as a business owner trying to promote their products and services through the use of threads, posts, and signatures.

6)   Sellers are urged to use one thread when selling multiple items.

7)   Members who bump excessively (more than every other day) will be warned by moderators to stop.

8)  The FS section is designed to provide a communication system that allows buyers and sellers to make contact with each other. The moderators only police the content of FS section.
This forum (its owners, admins and mods) cannot accept any responsibility for the specific transactions that may result. Administration of the forum cannot police something that happens outside the virtual world of this website.  However, we retain the right to take our own measures against any inappropriate activity that undermines reputation and/or proper functioning of the forum. In other words, let the buyer and seller beware.

9) The feedback section allows users to make comments about whether a member has lived up to his/her commitments in previous transactions.  It provides some indication of the amount of accumulated trust, but it is not a perfect system.  The moderators will ban obvious scammers and spammers, but it is difficult for us to know all the facts in the event of a disagreement.  Ultimately both buyer and seller need to use reasonable discretion and precaution, including using Paypal in a way that is prudent.

10)  If you are a seller, please indicate where the blade will be shipped from.  This can be an issue owing to customs, different reliability of shipping systems, and length of time for transit.  Buyers may wish to consider this in their decision making.

You may want to clarify (for newbies) that "FS" means "for sale" and "FT" means "for trade".

But also, isn't it a good thing when questions are asked in the thread? Like questions asking for photos, or other details of the products. This is relevant information for a lot of buyers.

Maybe more buyer-specific questions like "how much is shipping to Zimbabwe" should be PM'd since they're less likely to be relevant to most people.

Hi pimp, thank you for your input.

I agree that relevant questions can be asked, but sometimes it's hard to define relevant and the it's easy to "trash" the original sale thread. So on that note, I feel that pm'ing the seller would be the best way to ask questions, relevant or not (like ebay, etc).

If the owner feel that a question asked through PM could be useful for his sale, he/she can revise the original post or append to it to provide the relevant information. This way, we can avoid any 'trashing', which could influence the sale/trade.

That's essentially my logic for making that rule, I hope that makes sense for everyone Tongue

Oh btw, thanks for noting the acronyms, I will clarify that hehe.

Cheers, Jim

I think this "protocol" benefits the sellers more than the buyers.  It also restricts the interactions between the sellers and buyers that often make a forum like this a great place to sell/buy/trade.

Having a uniform format is definitely a good thing.  As far as to prevent people from trashing the threads you probably need to think harder to come up with some better guidelines than what you proposed or unilaterally set forth here.  Thank you for spearheading this initiative.

Thanks for the input GenomicsKnight. I agree with you that it does restrict interaction somewhat, but I feel that this is appropriate. Please allow me to explain.

I wouldn't say that it benefits the sellers. It gives the seller the proper respect to sell his/her item and that should be necessary to start with. Having buyers post random comments in the sale thread can affect the sale. Table tennis equipment is mostly preference and opinion, so comments that are such posted in thread do not benefit the buyers and could only harm the seller. If there are questions and comments, PM is a great way to interact with the seller. If there are opinions and reviews about certain equipment, we have a section in the forum for that as well.

I also think that shameless unwarranted bumping of FS/FT threads is bad for general discussion since it does absolutely except bump other topics down.

This last rule is pretty vague, why not make it more specific like at most one bump every five days, or until a thread cannot be seen in the first two pages in the "for sale" category, or something along these lines?

One bump a day is fine. 2 or more a day isn't good.

Rules?   what rules....they sure seem like suggetions only.  Rules are only rules if they are inforced.   Just my 2 cents.

Hey gang, let's at least start by following rule #1. This is a good practice that keeps this section organized, clear, and easier to locate what you want.

Geriatric Smash... if your still out there...   Bump  is just a simple way to push your post back to the top of the listing.

Jeff...I think you may want to also edit #4 further.  Defining just what is considered a "Store".

signatures?

as in, can't put your weblink and site description in? or just can't run specific item sales in your signature.

surely we're not going to tell ppgear and cole's, etc, that they can't put their store link and brief description (carrier of these brands) in their signature.

I took mine out as soon as I heard alex had opened up a store of his own.  I absolutely think it's appropriate.  Even if it's overkill, that's what's needed at this point since some dealers have gone way overboard.
