I would personally recommend the 802-1 but in a thinner thickness like 1.5mm, for starters.

802-40 on a soft sponge.

I'm a newbie to SP and I found 802-40 to be a nice rubber for transition from inverted to SP on the forehand. Decent rubber at a decent price!

I agree with that, I think 802-1 can generate more spin than 802-40.  I've tried both, and I think 802-1 is just a bit faster too.

Sorry but I find that hard to believe. 802-40 is meant to be one of the spinniest sp's in the world, therefore making it a good transition rubber form inverted to sp.

learn inverted both sides, then, years later if you find that you develop more of a hitting backhand, switch :)
