Unless there's an early-round upset, Ma Lin will have to play Zhang Jike in the quarterfinal - he lost the four matches the two have played this year.

itTV should start showing matches tomorrow.

Bwin is already showing matches tonight (and were showing qualification matches on the first day of play, although those were pretty boring Tongue).

What's up on tonight's schedule at bwin:

10:00 PM - Liu Shiwen (CHN) vs. Joanna Parker (ENG)

10:45 PM - Debora Vivarelli (ITA) vs. Dang Ye Seo (KOR)

12:15 AM - Tashiro Saki (JPN) vs. Daniela Dodean (ROU)

1:00 AM - Fukuhara Ai (JPN) vs. Hsiung Nai-I (TPE)

1:45 AM - Chen Chien-An (TPE) vs. Zoltan Fejer-Konnerth (GER)
1:45 AM - Wang Hao (CHN) vs. Morten Rasmussen (DEN)

2:30 AM
- Chiu Chung Hei (HKG) vs. Michael Maze (DEN)
2:30 AM - Cheung Yuk (HKG) vs. Pathik Mehta (IND)

3:15 AM - Jakub Kosowski (POL) vs. Zhong Ze Liu (SIN)
3:15 AM - Casper Gammelmark (DEN) vs. Wang Liqin (CHN)

4:00 AM - Gang Woog Kim (KOR) vs. Ma Liang (SIN)
4:00 AM - Oya Hidetoshi (JPN) vs. Feng Xiaoquin (AUT)

4:45 AM - Subhajit Saha (IND) vs. Yang Zi (SIN)
4:45 AM - Jiang Tianyi (HKG) vs. Alexander Shibaev (RUS)

Times are in Eastern Standard Time (EST). To convert to local competition time (in Tianjin), just add 12 hours (or flip AM with PM, PM with AM).

I know of at least one American who made it past the qualifiers: Zheng Jiaqi. Don't think she'll make it very far though, since she will likely have to beat Tamara Boros and Jiang Huajun to get into the 3rd round.

I think you misunderstood. I asked, "Where is the American team"?, not Where is the American. A team has people, not a single person. As far as I can tell she is the only American there.

Sorry, then. I guess it'll have to be a one-woman team. Smile

There are several "one-woman teams" in Tianjin: Croatia, France, Netherlands, Wales... And many countries have sent no team at all: Belgium, Sweden, Canada, Brazil, Egypt...

Jiaqi Zheng is actually the only player from all of North/Middle/South America. Good result qualifying for the main draw in what seems to be her first international tournament (other than the US Open). I wonder whether she's eligible to represent the US in Worlds/Olympics?

I guess itTV should also start tonight - with tomorrow's matches (tomorrow in China, that is). But probably slightly delayed, not live as in bwin. Slightly better quality though?

I doubt the quality will be better. Having seen both, I'd say they're pretty similar. I think they all pull from the same live stream anyway.

They're showing Boros vs Jiaqi now - first game to Boros 11-7.

The feed has slo-mo and closeups, not just a single angle.

Second game Zheng 12-10, from 8-10. This could be interesting, Boros isn't comfortable at all. At the US Open Jiaqi almost beat Dodean.

Now game 7... it's going to be on itTV shortly.

Boros was playing passively earlier on. She's changed her play to something more aggressive, which is causing some problems for her opponent.

Great win! 12-10 in the 7th, again after being down 8-10... with a little help from the net.

At the US Open she had lost to Dodean 10-12 in the 7th.

She has great shots from both sides - and certainly still room for improvement in the physical and mental aspects.

More info on Jiaqi here:

Gosh, I'm so surprised! Sun Bei Bei won Sayaka Hirano by 4-0! Usually she always loses to Sayaka, but she win her this time without losing a game!

Wow, Zheng jiaqi beat Jiang Huajun. She's really good.

And I'm also quite happy for Feng Tianwei to repeat her success against Fukuoka Haruna.
