Just have got to my knowledge the cheapest way to return 'Rubber Cement' adhesive into the glue with mighty boostering effect. 1. Evaporate RC bottle down to its half volume (jelly-like substance) 2. Dilute the jelly with the organic solvents (in equal parts) CYCLOHEXANE + BUTYLACETATE, up to 80% of the inicial RC volume. 3. close the bottle top tightly and shake it well. BON APPETITE! :)

Thanks for the pro-tip. Here I was with all this Cyclohexane and Butylacetate just sitting around collecting dust.

The simpler (however, perhaps not as effective) method is to buy Elmer's rubber cement at your local phaprmcy or office store (CVS, Staples, Walmart etc) and add some Ultrapure kerosene (paraffine oil) (local hardware store, Walmart etc.)... not a lot, just to make Elmer's a bit more fluid.

Is that an effective booster or is it just to make the cement smoother and more fluid? |

I have started using Best Test rubber cement with the Best Test solvent / thinner. Mixing it will add dome and a slight glue effect.

Yes, it's illegal for tournament play. But that does not disqualify it for fun play. |

cylcohexane is a volitile hydrocarbon. Stinks like Heptane or Hexane. Same "aroma".
If you are going to "boost" or speed glue
forgo the mickey mouse crap (cyclohexane just like hexane or n-heptane fall in the mickey mouse category) and go
***disclaimer: you mix this stuff up at your own risk and peril. This is not a how-to or guide or any of that nonesense. If you do this, you do it on your own accord and I hereby relieve myself from any warranty, either explicit or implied or any damage that might arise from you attempting this!!***
Xylene, toluene, napthalene (1/2/2 parts) to 5 parts rubber/paper cement (original butterfly superchack was this way)
or
Trichloroethelyne which is usually reffered to a rubber vulcanizing agent that Klampar was the first to use.
every thing else is second fiddle to this stuff. I will warn you, this stuff REAKS and the xylene will get your head spinning in no time flat.

It is mildly effective but as figgie commented not at all as superb as when you use pure Xylene or Trichloroethylene or whatever other crap chemists came up with... |

Just add some gasoline car fuel. That'll be enough.

I wouldn't do that - gasoline is not as pure as Ultrapure Paraffine Oil (Kerosene) they sell for lamps in hardware stores. It will clog up the sponge and kill it much faster than usual boosters.

I never did. It WILL thin out the rubber cement alot so be aware of that.
You have a stronger stomach than me, xylene stinks, makes me gag if I smell it now a days.

My coach told me to use Rubber Cement + Gasoline and there noticeably more speed but no doming effect and less spin! Crap combination!!! >: (
Is paint thinner + rubber cement better? I have Paraffin Oil too but it's dyed green. Will that still work? |

Could this glue be detected in a tournament by the voc detectors?

Following most any advice in this thread (regarding the adding of foreign substances to rubber cement) would most probably (read certainly) result in a fail when tested on VOC detecting equipment; possibly varying depending on how much before the test the solvent ridden glue was used. If used a great deal before testing (& also depending on the VOC content & % of ones doctored rubber cement) it might pass. The preceding supposition is from a rank amateur who stands by it all the same. |

yes, every glue in this thread would be picked up by ENEZ (the basic VOC detector) if it was glued within 24 hours or so of use.
and while paraffin oil by itself will provide a noticeable dome, it lacks much of the "pop" that made the first generation, banned VOCs so potent. and if a coach tells you to add gasoline to something other than a vehicle, he clearly doesn't have your best interests at heart. |
