Well this should be more interesting. Kinda funny though "Allstars" from Asia not including the current top ranked player in the world, reigning world champion, or reigning olympic champion...but hey, it'll be more competitive.

Looks like pretty good matchups all around though.

Let's see what form Vladi is in... he hasn't played a tournament in a long time now. Although this is again an exhibition match, so I am not sure if we can look at it and properly judge their forms before Moscow.

Is two weeks a long time? (Volkswagen Cup, lost in 7 to Mizutani)

He's also been playing in the ETTU Cup with the Orenburg club (currently in semifinals).

wow!!  that's right!!  evidently, like jim, i completely forgot.  i wonder why??

it's like samsonov has become totally irrelevant, despite the fact that he's a top-10 player.

I wouldn't be surprised if he changed his rubbers again, and then decided to wait until Moscow... not to mention he played a few matches in Russian Superleague, in Euro club matches, but I think he is biding his time till Moscow, trying to time his peak form for that. Perhaps after WTTC he will start playing ProTour again

Hopefully he's spending most of his time coaching his team mates since it's a team competition. They would probably make it further if he focused on that rather than him adjusting to a new rubber.

i'm not so sure about that.  i think maze played him really smart today.  he forced wlq to hit a lot of backhands and then he hooked his forehand out wide to wlq's backhand which he had a problem with.

i wonder--is this the 1st time he's beaten him??  cuz on the few occasions i've seen maze play him, it's been an easy win for wlq.

Its probably the first time Maze beat Liqin, but, Liqin is a shadow of himself compared to a few years ago and he doesnt step around to his forehand as quick or as often as he used to. Good win nontheless.

Of course Maze didn't play bad, he had a good tactic...
But you won't say that a WLQ in average shape would have lost against Maze playing like this?!
Maze definitely didn't play the best match of his life...
