Ovtcharov's blade looks like Donic Ovtcharov Senso Carbon and not True Carbon which was advertised as Dima's blade of choice.

polbotinka my friend, he plays with viscaria and he claims that he plays with true carbon, which really is a clone of viscaria from donic. He just take off the handle cups from an Ovtcharov Senso carbon and he puts htem on a viscaria blade.

That's right, but what we must say is that he added 2 small extra veneers ( around maybe 0,5 mm ) under each handle cup to become more handle thickness. As you know Dima Ovtcharov is a tall player with a little bigger hands so he needs additional handle thickness. He solves it by putting some extra veneer under his handle cups. I think he has a handle thickness of nearly 24 mm. Handle wideness is around 29 mm. Don't forget his blade has also the shoulder or wings wide of Butterly blades. These wings are total different from Donic blades or others.

Hello,

Why some players use only pieces of side tape around the blade? This one is Chuang's blade.

I think the reason is that you will rarely hit the paddle with that part of the blade, so no need to use side protector

Maybe that's the part that he ususally knocks the racket onto the table. And not having the tape on the whole perimetre keeps weight down a bit. Just guessing...

Does anyone really believe that a top five ranking player in any sport uses the junk that is piped through mass market channels?

For some reason, the umps in TT seem to be reluctant to enforce rules. Maybe the rules are too subjective and unenforceable.

Or maybe to make the blade a tad more head heavy.

This is true but I think that the main reason is to prevent rubbers getting of the racket if it does hit the table. With wbg you can´t just press the rubber back because it won´t stick.
What is the point of playing safe shots when you can miss with style

Xu Xin is using Carbonado 190 recently? He seems to be trying out a few blades. But I still think his performance was way more stable when he was using Intensity.

It's not carbonado
The color's different. (black)
and it has no carbon.

Traditionally, CP users prefer 5 ply wood blades

That is correct.

I know some players don't like to use edge tape in order to allow for 'the gas to escape' upon ball impact. I mostly think it is personal preference (or in case of sponsored players using edge tape, to hide the fact that they are not using their sponsor's rubbers).

looks like it has Xu Xin's name on the badge. The sanded off wording on the wing seems to still have the letters 'coming'

New XX signature blade maybe?

Thank you for the pictures.

I too noticed c-pen players do prefer 5-ply blades. What's the rationale behind that?
A version of Hurricane 3
A version of Tenergy
A Stiga blade...
