Jeoung Youngsik is using a special blade (butterfly). It is a blade a bit faster than korbel.

Shibaev used his 7 ply wood (with red plies like Clipper, Force Black Edition, etc) with Korbel handle.

I'm pretty sure I saw Steger use the IFL ALC still. Unless there is a picture to prove me wrong...

People say he interchange between his ZLC and SZLC blade. ST handle, with T80 on both sides

He might've used his SZLC at the olympic, it was a tad blurry though

Regarding some previous comments on this thread, handle shape matters a lot even though it is something we don't talk about as much here as ply and blade thickness, etc.  It effects how you play in many ways.

Another thing I have noticed is that even within a single model, there is some surprising variability in handles (size) from one example of a blade to another.  It seems like that is more variable than anything else.

Finally someone who cares about handle dimensions. The handle is more important than you think. Pro players care about it- why should we not take advantage of it ?

I've talked with Sebastian Steger's father about handle shapes and dimensions. His point of view is the same like mine, it says you only change a little bit from the thumb rest area and it has a big effect to your playing style and technique.

I like to know both things. Handle shape and size really affects how I like a blade so I find that info interesting

It is interesting that the True Carbon plays so much like Btfly ALC blades. That makes me suspect Dima was (is) using a modified Viscaria and now Donic sells something that is more or less that. I still am using my True Carbon after more than 10 years with Viscaria.

For example, Butterfly has modified the ST handle of old Viscaria.  I know what they have modified. After the modifcation around the year 2000, then came out Boll Spirit ST on the market. It's exact the same blade with a thickness of 5.8 mm like Viscaria. There stands in the catalogue ST and FL handle have been optimized- yes but they won't tells the details of optimization. For me, I know what they have done. Here is one secret from me and if Butterfly don't tell the truth I will: Here is one detail but there are more, not many but has big effect on your technique. They changed the handle wideness from originally 30,50 mm down to 27, 80 mm. There is one more detail and it depends on handle thickness..... It was not easy to find out and took many years... After I found out I was a little bit shocked and sad at the same time. If you take a look at Bojan Tokic's handles then you will see that he is using something similar and the same with Paul Drinkhall. And if you see that you get very sad and angry and you feel kind of cheated.

Funny after Donic finally released the True Carbon under his name which resembled more or less what he was actually using, Dima changed again his blade to something Innerfiber. Dead

It looks like a Butterly Arylate Carbon blade like Viscaria or ALC or Spirit, all the same.
But what is new to me is that he uses different handles on Viscaria blade. The handles are more round than squarish. If you ta a more acurate look at the handles, then you see that he has put under every handle shell halves a around 1 or 2 mm veneer between.
And that's what i have supposed all the time. Most standard handles are to thin and small because of the thickness. Some player uses theirfore grip tape- but that makes the handles also wider. The problem is the players just want to make the thickness more and not wider. Ovtcharoved solved the problem with adding a mm thin extra veneer under the handles and it is more comfortable than grip tape-it becomes so sticky. And onother thing is Ovtcharov uses a round handle radius just like Waldner, on the contrary to Timo Boll- he is using very angular shaped handles- there are 2 different ways to become a perfect blade if the handle dimensions are right and that we won't get for sure from standard sold blades. If the dimensions are right the you get a perfect angular shaped blade or a perfect round shaped blade. Then would be easy problem for me if I could choose between those 2 perfect blades - thats what I call matter of tast- and this we get almost too rar.
I have the perfect dimensions for very angular shaped blade like Timo Boll is using. I've made a blade becauseof it in my own. I have average sized hands like most of us and also Timo Boll. Butterfly don't sells it to us no matter how much you spend or no matter if you make an special order for thousands.

From the picture that TurboZ posted I think ttspirit may be right.  If you look at the layers not near the handle but near the rubber, it looks like the composite layer is close to the surface*.  IN the vicinity of the handle it looks like the composite layer is deeper but that is mainly because on the handle there is an extra wood layer between the handle and the blade, as if to make the handle just a little bit thicker.

* But that part is not in great focus so harder to see and I could be wrong.

By the way, the handle on Dima's actual blade looks even more oval shaped than the relatively round ST handle that comes on the True Carbon.  I think I would like it a lot.

I actually own two of the True Carbons.  I like one quite a bit more than the other because its handle is noticeably bigger and it is heavier (and faster).

You have sharp eyes Baal. On second look I think you are right about it. That handle I believe is still the same old round and thin Ovtcharov Original Senso Carbon in style but grow thicker by adding a second layer.
