the main draw of the men's has started.
somehow, someway, WALLY GREEN made it into the main draw without winning a match!! was he what they call in tennis a "lucky loser?" anyhow, he drew GAO NING in the 1st round and promptly got whacked!! i think he got 4 pts. in the 3rd set!! not bad, considering... also, they're starting to post videos on itTV. right now they have a women's doubles match betw. japan and spain--well, 2 chinese who play for spain--and a men's singles match betw. a japanese junior and a chinese junior. i think i'll watch the "junior" match... |

It's a nice tournament!
Li Ching and Ko Lai Chak are back on the tour, Kaii Yoshida, Lee Jung Woo, Mizutani, Boll, Oh, Joo, Korbel and Ning Gao, lots of players, only chinese players aren't there.

yeah, that was a great match!! for a moment there i thought jung was gonna pull off yet another upset!
anyhow, i have a question--who was that girl coaching FUKUHARA AI?? in her match against ZHU YULING, when ai-chan took a timeout, the cameraman zoomed in and turned up the volume to listen and they were speaking chinese!! |

i'm not sure it was underdeveloped footwork, it looked like underdeveloped mindset. After the first 2 sets the 15 yr old gave up. It looked as though she was frustrated and didn't know what to do, "should I attack or play passive?" While wang was playing sticky, picking winners. Wang also used some stalling techniques at the end of the 2nd set, which was effective. i don't know if that is called dirty or intelligent, lots of the pros do it.
