Wow. When I'm practicing RPB, as opposed to jpen, my fingers are so sore/numb when I take a break. Am I doing it completely wrong?

It's probably just a matter of time, like how in the beginning, most penholder's thumb and index finger hurt from the grip. After four years of penhold now, my middle finger bends sideways LOL

It could be that you are gripping too tightly, or you are extending and stretching your middle + ring fingers too much.

This is the grip I had trouble with (fingers fully extended and pushing with them + thumb hard):_________________I found this grip yesterday, seems to not have as many problems.

If the first grip works for you, then use it!

The first grip is painful one.

Oh, I thought you said the first was good since the line was next to it. In any case, both look fine, just use the one that works the best for you.

The first grip may give you pain at the big knuckle if you extend too much.

edit: I mean the finger joint close to the knuckle joint on the middle and ring fingers.

The second one is more natural, besides, when playing CPen, don't hold your blade too tight or deep, so you can easily use your wrist.

i have practiced RPB for almost 2 yrs, my finger are very sored at first, and have to take a rest every 20 mins or so, now i can play 2 consecutive hrs without rest, you will get used to this , just a matter of time... keep practicing...

As soon as rally is over you should hold your bat with your other hand or as a shakehander. That'll help too...
