it was a great experience to see and watch some of those, considered world class players such as Yang Zi and Zhou... very good games. The club is nice and the environment if great. I just wish the open singles of both women and men did not spread out through out the day that long. It's really bored to watch those under 2200 events.

Open singles final, Wang 4 and Zhou 1. Zhou missed a lot of his power shots. Smart played by Wang. It was thrilling to watch the semi and final games. I enjoyed it very much. I hope there'll be another tournament like this one next year.

Ben had to default because by the time the match was to be played, it was closer to 11:15 PM and he had his family with him, and possibly they were tired. By this time, there were no more than 50 maybe 75 folks still at the playing hall.

By looking at the prize money and the scale of this tournament, I wonder why this could not have been run as an ITTF Pro Tour event? If you check out ITTF's page regarding prize money:
you can see there are 4 or 5 tournament that even offer lower prize money. If ours were a Pro Tour, we could have anticipated more international players coming to LA, not just for prize money but also for their world rankings. Just a thought. |

For a tournament to be approved as ITTF Pro Tour, there are many, many other requirements in addition to prize money - TV setup, practice facilities, hospitality, etc. See "ProTour directives" on ittf.com
The date was not very well chosen, it conflicted with the beginning of the European leagues (champions league + German league) and with the final of the Chinese Super League. Most of the top 100 had commitments with their clubs. |

final of the Chinese Super League. Most of the top 100 had commitments
with their clubs.
In truth the revised date for this event was not selected to attract maximum amount of world top 100 players, but convenience to U.S. players... While we thought our original chosen date could have worked hand-in-hand with USATT to attract more foreign talent, it was surprisingly turned down by USATT as being too close to the 2011 U.S. Open... |

Do you recommend recording matches with a wide angle lens?

<<Do you recommend recording matches with a wide angle lens? >>
In a tight situation, I always attach a wide angle lens. I still prefer using a video camera instead of a still camera that can record video. Although if I used my still camera, tons of lenses are available for me to use. Also because I tend to leave the video cam on a tripod while I walk around and take photos, a wide angle lens gets the job done. If I did not have to take photos, then I could live a wide angle lens since I can manually move the focus once actions starts. |
