How do sponge hardnesses vary across companies? Some give options on hardness and the scales used are different. I know for sure that a DHS 38 doesn't equal an ESN 38. What about other companies? (Dawei, DHS, ESN, Haifu, Butterfly, Yasaka, etc.)

Galaxy has a nice chart translating between the DHS scale, which they use now as well, and the ESN scale. Unfortunately, I can't find it right now :(

Thanks a lot. What about and those that don't follow either scale?

Some rubbers just use soft, medium and hard, then there is no way to tell, the Nodias A1 hard is softer than my Hammond pro B Medium even though they are both from Nittaku. |

Not really - Butterfly and Nittaku use Shore A as well I think. I think ESN uses Shore C and because of that all tensor rubbers are graded in Shore C - therefore Euro tensor manufacturers like Donic, Andro, Palio report the Shore C numbers (like 54 for Palio Thors or 47 for some Roxon or Plasma rubbers... 470!) |

If what you say is true, then the Yasaka Mark V sponge would be as hard as DHS H3 Neo 40 deg, which I find it hard to believe. |

Nope.
Yasaka seems to use Shore C. They say Mark 5 is 40-45d (I suppose more like 45). It`s close to Tenergy with its 36 degrees Shore A. Here is a similar result, both 52d (there is obviously some calibration offset present): And Mark5-30 is VERY soft =))) Edited by GSOM_GSOM11 - 01/18/2013 at 4:40pm |

Here is another good link
http://mechanicalrubber.com/elastomericsolutions/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Durometer-Conversion-Table-2.pdf It seems that DHS/Butterfly scale is Shore A (everybody agrees on that), but ESN scale is probably Shore O. |
