my guess is germany, portugal, austria and russia get through, then it will be germany vs portugal and russia vs austria. im hoping portugal upsets germany since germany is playing without suss and boll is not in his best shape but i still think germany is favorite in that match while in the game between austria and russia it will be very even but i think russia will get through...

Russia just lost to Sweden 2-3.
So tomorrow it's Germany vs Portugal and Austria vs Sweden.

And for the women Netherlands vs Hungary and Belarus vs Romania.

No Eurosport this time. Some national TVs are broadcasting though.

Par Gerell has managed to beat both Smirnov and Shibaev - a surprise if you ask me. Russia was losing 0-2 after the first two matches but then Skachkov beat Svensson, and Smirnov rather easily defeated Persson. In the 5th match Shibaev was so nervous vs Gerell he played the first two sets like a 1st-grader, was very passive and shaky. Got a little warmed up in the 3rd made it to 10-10 but then lost his nerve again. I think Skachkov might have fared better on the 2nd position but it's easy to second-guess coaches after the games.

gerell winning those 2 matches were a big surprise to me also, i expected russia to win rather easily... also, gerell services are the most illegal services i´ve ever seen! even more than the chinese... to me the winner of this european championship will come out of the game germany vs portugal with germany being the big favorites but theres some hope for portugal since all portuguese players have beaten boll before

Gerell just defeated Schlager in the semifinal match... Sweden might pull off another upset. Especially since Austria is not using Chen Weixing in this match. However, Gardos beat Persson in the first tie.

Schlager played both matches quite passively, carefully - and lost both. I think that that generation - Persson, Waldner, Primorac, Schlager even Samsonov and Kreanga will be out of the first 20-30 in two years time... well maybe not Vladi.

Anyways, congrats to Swedes - Jorgen surprises again!
