Cocorico ! Vive la France !
Incredible, unbelievable, never seen before ! Ma Lin loosing first round of a pro tour, can't remember...Robinot was still junior few weeks ago. 2010 junior european champ and runner up this year against another...french junior 1st year, Tristan Flore.
There must have been an upset or something, I can't see how Ma Lin could have lost on a regular basis. If not, it's the performance of the year, no doubt !

Actually Ma Lin lost in the first round of the Austrian Open a few Weeks ago against ~120 wr Livenstov from Russia.

Still a very impressive upset nonetheless!

I think it's obvious by now that Ma Lin is very, very close to retirement now. Judging by WLQ's lack of international appearances, his days are numbered too

Actually that happened on Harmony China Open in front of the home crowd...

it's Liventsov, not Livenstov but that's splitting hairs I guess...

I stand corrected, you're right!

Ma Lin played fairly well in the Chinese League and events beforehand.  It's a bit strange with the drop off. He was playing through injuries near the end of the league season I believe.

Among other relatively interesting upsets - unknown (to me) Japanese player Maharu Yoshimura beat Lebesson, Kirill Skachkov defeated Gao Ning, and Kamal Achanta defeated Li Hu.

Niwa Koki beat the last hope of Swedes - Jens Lundquist, 4-3. And Quentin Robinot (victor over Ma Lin) lost to Yang Zi in the 7th...

From Europe only Skachkov and Gauzy remain among Top 16... and unfortunately they will now play each other, and then the victor will face Ma Long... and we all know how that is going to end. Cry

Robinot beat Ma Lin, so Gauzy will for sure beat Ma Long, if he beats SkachkovWink

Kinda sad to see Ma Lin's career whimpering to an end, he and his doubles partner Wang Hao lost in the first round of the doubles too.

I have not heard this female player before until now - Yang Yang (CHN).

She won the qualification group, won the Round 64, then in Round 32 she beat the highly ranked player Tie Yana of Hong Kong (ITTF: #11, Ratings Central: #18).

Rating's Central does not have the record of Yang Yang.
ITTF only has her record when she was playing as a junior (under 21) in 2008.

Yang Yang just came out of nowhere and beat Tie Yana.
========================================

itTV has her match when she played in the qualification group.
Her defense and offense both look good, fun to watch this new player.

Yang Yang is one of the important players on the Bayi team of the CTTSL, so she's not out of nowhere,  and beating Tie Yana is not a surprise.
