This looks like a video of the Canadian team being coached in China with the National Team. Here the Chinese coach demonstrates hip rotation:

You can see him explaining that it is not simply a weight shift but a hip rotation.

Later on over here he is demonstrating how you use the forearm and wrist to roll over the ball when striking it. Pretty interesting.

If anyone has a nice clips that are similar, I would love to see them.

I noticed it also. lol. How humiliating! But at least it was not a bowling ball coach!

He used to be Zhang Jike's coach in the national team. However, Zhang had some trouble when being managed by him.

Cool videos, but these are in Vancouver, not China, as it is stated in the video description. But if you've ever been to Vancouver, it's about as close as you can get to China in North America LOL

Thanks for the correction. Maybe I'll be able to make it to Vancouver some time. Do you know the name of the club?

This is the first real evidence I've seen of the whole "close the paddle over the ball on contact" folklore actually being real!  cool video.

Yes, I have been noticing this in other videos but this is the first one I came across where the coach clearly motioned that the kid needed to do it. Unfortunately, the execution was not quite right and he was rewarded by a ping pong ball in the head.

Interesting that he plays with just good-old curled fingers on the Bh side like if nothing happened to penhold in recent years (traditional style coach – father maybe?). With a bit more straight fingers on the back he would have much easier time with adjusting angles (like closing the blade in highlighted point), because now he can basically only use a thumb for this purpose, with very little control and strength in a process. But this comes from a newly converted penholder with not-so-much experience..

Thanks for the additional analysis.

He uses RPB very well, so apparently they are well aware of recent developments in PH techniques :)
