nice pics! would you say the quality of their newer blades have improved? i have heard they invested in some new machines in making blades and the blades are supposed to be better in finish. what are your thoughts on this?

Yes, it is. My regular RW V and VII were also 94 and 99 g, and thicker. Didn't like them much.
The quality of the recent Stiga models is really better.

Nice! I've ordered one too! I hoping to receive it this week. I will post some pics and weight too.
BTW: what kind of rubbers will pair up nicely with the Rosewood? Edited by van_doorn - 06/23/2012 at 11:34am |

Seems too light. tak9.com has some ST handle version with 77-78 gr weights.

The old Rosewood V's that I've seen were 94g and 6.3mm thick beasts. This 80g 5.7mm XO version won't be as powerful, no matter what Stiga says. It will just be a looper's blade with medium-hard feel.

The handle looks pretty small by Stiga Legend standards. Is that true?

Acording to their Hungarian redistributors' website:
http://www.lhsport.hu/eShop?function=detailsPage&item=2612&n=rosewood+xo+%C3%BCt%C5%91fa XO --> EXTRA OLD It means they have had the outer plies dried out in a special way for a longer period of time (4 years - since 2008). Due to this procedure higher speed and control have been achieved. |

XO is slower than YEO. With Donic Bluefire M1 on it, the closest match is TBS with two old T64. Glued also a black 5Q and the general feeling is vibrant and fast. Tomorrow will test it with a real player, not against the return board.

I am not so sure about the higher speed, but higher control and better feel are there, no doubt. Probably it is the weight of the blade (80 g) that gives me the wrong impression of less speed, while actually it is less power. The balance however is impeccable, even with 100 g rubbers.

Looks slow on passive shots and fast on hits with more effort, shows good promise!

Does anyone know where I can purchase one in the UK? None of the British distributors listed on the Stiga website has the Rosewood XO in stock as yet (which is poor.)

Ryan from the Paddle Palace is bringing me one of these XO blades this weekend, and I said to him: "when I first saw that name I was thinking it was a blade made specifically for long pips/no sponge players...".
He said: "oh yeah... XO... OX... I really hope a lot of other people don't get confused by that."

He also did say, that according to his info from Stiga the XO name is a reference to the long aging time of the rosewood plies (as in eXtra Old).
Same as what igszoctan has mentioned above.
