It has started! The draw is announced - check it out

http://wvc2012.com/en/draw/

Let's hope someone will make videos! Huge number of players - almost 600 players in MS 40-49 alone, same in 50-59... and more and more.

The first matches are done. Mikael Appelgren lost a match in his group in 50-59 MS to a Chinese-born player from Austria (I haven't seen his name before but perhaps someone will recognize him.. Lu Qiwai), so Lu got 1st place and Mikael - 2nd.

Australia, not Austria. And spelled Lu Qiwei - so probably the same player who played for China in the 1979 Worlds. Lost to Jonyer and Klampar in the team final:

I guess they don't use seeding at the WVC. Really close match too:
2 : 3  (-6 -6 3 5 -14)

One of my practice partners is playing in it.  He will be annihilated but he is there and I am not.  I am envious.

Wow, 3304 players entered.  31 players are from USA.
Is this the world largest TT event in terms of number of players entered?

Looking through some of the names - man, there are a lot of good old players... meaning old players that used to be good. Never the less, it would be a lot of fun to watch.

I think it is indeed the largest official TT event - other tourneys like WTTC or Baltimore (NA Teams) pale in comparison. They only have 700-800 players.

Many participants from my home City and State. Most of them lost early in the groups and Main draw though. A few reached the round of 32.

Appelgren, Phillipe Saive in Semi finals to be played on the 30th (finals too later that day)

A great job by the organizers. Special thanks for the amazing web site and live reports.

What did happened to the Chinese women?
Looks like a kind of hysterical fit.       Right?
