9-2-2013 news - 12th China National Sports Games (TT is one of them):
Guo Yue had a neck injury, not life threatening, but will sure to withdraw from the remaining competition.
(In Team Event): Zhang Jike was injured when playing Wang Hao during the first game's 2nd point (that's more or less at the beginning). After the match, Jike said it was very painful, and at the time he didn't know what kind of move (or stroke) would cause severe pain and what kind of move (or stroke) would not cause any pain. But, in the last deciding game of the match, he suddenly played exceptionally well, and beat Wang Hao 11 -- 4.
*** As they say in the Chinese media, TT is the only sport that is more difficult to win in the Chinese National Sports games (once every 4 years) than in Olympics. Every match is tough to win.
Above is the summary of the following article (in Chinese).

That's an insult to Wanghao at a whole new level...So not only the major events' finals, ZJK wants to say he can also take WH out even with injured arm.

He said that in the deciding game he suddenly played exceptionally well, which could mean exceptionally well for him even if he wasn't injured. Seeing he said this after he had won the match, the statement sounds like a hint of humility, trying to give WH some space to hold his head up. |

One video that I found is of a sad variety - Guo Yue had an injury on the court during one of the matches.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=W3RYMLZKz38 It seems she had something bad happen to vertebrae in her neck. She didn't scream or anything but looking at her expression in the second half of the clip you can see that she is at least very uncomfortable and is afraid to move her head. |

I like the way how PLA position the team to face Beijing Wang Hao to gurantee 1 point, and they were hoping to get 2 points off Yan An, while Zhou Yu or FZD can not guarantee 1 point off HYC and all 3 players getting points off Ma Long is difficult. Just bonus that ZY beat ML, otherwise, it could of been a Ma Long win and Zhou Yu vs Yan An in the decider |

now how the hell did Ma Long lose to Zhou Yu, that was quite unexpected. PLA's strength is in the younger guns, not Wang Hao. Smart strategy by them to play Wang Hao as the 3rd player.
Xu Xin vs FZD, Wang Hao vs Wang Liqin, Zhou Yu vs Shang Kun, this would be a nightmare matchup for Shanghai. I think PLA will take the finals.

In fact it is Shangkun vs Wanghao, Xuxin vs Zhouyu and Wangliqin vs FZD, different matchup, same nightmare, WLQ is so far the best player in SH, he just took out FZD 3:2, from the match I can see how hard it was for him to pull that off.
Xuxin is not himself tonight, didn't put up any fight against Zhouyu, shangkun went down to game 5 and lost the deciding game 13:15 to Wanghao. Xuxin vs Wanghao is on now. |
