I am his son Alan.  Yes, he just played at the Concord club Sunday afternoon.  He passed away the evening of 12/1.  I will try to remember to post information regarding services.  It probably won't be until next weekend, the 14th.

Hi Alan,
Shonie was one of the great volunteers in the history of US table tennis.
Well liked and loved. He will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Alan,
I'm very sorry to read about your father's passing. Unfortunately I also know the pain of losing a parent as my mother died about 5 months ago. Although she wasn't a very good player she would always come to the club and hit some with me and watch some of my matches so she has been missed greatly. Sometimes when I feel sad about it I just tell myself to be grateful for having had such a wonderful parent, and that I should live a life to make her proud.
Peace be with you and your family.
God Bless,
Dave

Hi Alan,

I'm sorry for your loss, the table tennis community is all saddened by the loss of a Hall of Famer.

Memorial services/Celebration of Life will be held on Friday December 13, at the Northbrae Community Church at 941 The Alameda, Berkeley 94707.  The time is yet to be determined, but most likely will begin at 11:00 am.  A potluck reception will immediately follow the service in the hall adjacent to the chapel. I sincerely hope to see many of you there.  If you have any questions please call me at (510) 520-9981 or email alankaki(at)gmail(dot)com

this information was originally from Alan Aki, Shonie's son
