Hi everybody,

after a 15-years-break i restarted playing table-tennis two years ago. Since that time i have always been looking for my "best-fiting" personal equipment and was testing out many blades. Now I finally ended in collecting Butterfly Blades. I am not specified at collecting a single handle type or only collect just blades in unused or mint condition. My collection is by far not the biggest if i take a look at some other members here...but...
a few blades finally ended up at my home that`s why I want to show some pictures of my woodies and hope you have fun by watching them....
Here a videolink how Butterfly blades are born:

1. Butterfly Swedish Style

Weight: 96 Gramms Sized: 16,1/15,5cm
Not a light blade, regarding its age it is not really a "slow" blade

2. Butterfly Börzsey

Weight: 92 Gramms Sized: 16,0/15,4cm
5-ply-hinoki-wood. I think it was made in the year 1975.

3. Butterfly Surbek (European Champion)

Weight: 101 Gramms Sized:15,9/14,7cm
This Blade is a Tribute to the famous Yugoslavian Player Dragutin Surbek (The Worker) who was very successful in doubles together with his partner Anton Stipancic (The Genius), both teamed up successfully at doubles in 1979 in Pjöngjang and won the title. Surbek was a real "Training Animal" he broke in the Training hall several times at night to Train and went really mad if he was not able to play tt every day....

4. Butterfly Gergely

Weight: 101 Gramms Sized:15,9/14,7cm
5-ply-wood with straightened and flatened Lense

5. Butterfly Stipancic-H
Weight: 99 Gramms Sized: 16,0/15,1cm
5-ply-wood, not a slow one
Unlike Surbek Stipancic did not like to train very much....but he had a good excuse for it....he was looking for the female Players

I do not really know for sure but i think the holes were made to reduce the weight of the handle and could have also been a reason for reducing sweat. Maybe the blade was also lacking weight to the blades head, this could have also been a reason for the amazing style of the handle. Stigas "Ehrlich" handle seems to be very similar to the Swedish Style.

7. Butterfly Jonyer-H

Weight: 96 Gramms Sized: 16,3/15,4cm

Model Name is refering to Hungarian Player István Jonyer, Worldchampion in 1975 in Calcutta. He was also very sucessful in doubles with Tibor Klampár and Gábor Gergely. In the 1970ies the Hungarian Team had such great Players, most of them were using the classic Butterfly rubber
Sriver D12 and a strange glue smell was wobbering through the air coming out from the changing rooms of the hungarian players.......
The Srivers were also attached when i received this blade, it was very hard to get them off after being glued on the old blades for a few decades...

The feel of the old Jonyer-H FL was incredible. Sadly mine was broken decades ago. A great blade in every sense.

8. Butterfly English Style

Weight: 95 Gramms Sized: 17,3/15,3cm
with old (german/latin/Roman) font and nailed metal tag.
If you look at the dimension of the blade, the 95 gramms are still
acceptable. Similar to the Butterfly New Leather.

Since we reached the "Style" Blades we can go on....

9. Butterfly Kenny Style

Weight:88 Gramms Sized:15,7/15,2cm
5-Ply-basswood
A real classic blade. For todays play it is slow, but it has much control. The handle sealing causes much sweat. I think it is the reason why many handles of the kenny style blades lost the Color over the years and the prints have left

10. Butterfly Firehand Style

Weight:87 Gramms Sized:16,0/15,4cm
the blade is from the mid-1970ies, 5ply-all-wood with hinoki on top,
This blade is a little bit faster than the Kenny, i think speed rating should be off-, very good for topspin Play

11. Butterfly Phoralek HS

Weight:86 Gramms Sized:16,5/15,4cm
This 5-ply-wood is based on the same blade construction than the Jonyer-H. Erich Pohoralek from Suisse gave order to Butterfly to produce these blades to compete against the Stiga Alser since other models like Secretin/Kenny Style were made with basswood and the handle of Jonyer-H was very small.. So the blades head of the Pohoralek HS (Hinoki-Shake) was also modified and the handle got bigger. Blade speed is OFF-

12. Butterfly Pohoralek CBS

Weight:77 Sized:16,4/15,5cm
5-ply-wood
The second model from the series Pohoralek ordered at Butterfly.
Despite the blade size a very light blade with much control.
Compared to the HS, the CBS is the slower blade, specially designed for allround play.
Many Players still use it today for defensive play, the CBS has still enough offensive potential.
In combination with OX-rubbers long pips underspin goes very well, especially from the half distance it is very easy to cut down the arriving topspins....

13. Butterfly Secretin

Weight:80Gramms Sized:15,8/15,3cm

Another classic allround blade with 5-ply-basswood veneers.

Jaques Secretin won the European title 1976 in Prague with his defensive playing style.

At the world championships he was not very sucessfull, best result was reaching the quaterfinal

in singles 1973 in Sarajevo.

Later he was doing some nice tt-shows in Europe with his partner Vincent Purkart...

14. Butterfly Phalanx

Weight: 87 Gramms Sized:15,9/15,0cm

with old metal tag and no font on blades head

This Butterfly model got famous since one of the best Allround players Andrej Grubba was using it a very long time. Fast and Light for sharp swings, which adds more power. Ranked in the midfield of the blade speed range it was much faster than Elegance, Agnes Simon,Surbek, Topspin or Kucharski model. Faster models in general were the first Tamca5000 models and only a few blades with 5-ply-hinocki veneers... The Phalanx is said to be the ancestor of the Grubba Allround, Grubba Pro and Grubba Variant 5-ply-woods that were introduced to the market when the first Phalanx got slowly discontinued but i am not sure since Phalanx and Grubba series had different speed and were sold at the same time. Here the Version from 1986 with the white-brownish divided handle, later Version had the full Brown handles.
