Hey guys,

I got this blade from the FS section a while back, but never did figure out what it was!

Querying the vintage experts here --- does this model have a name? Or is it an old pre-made?

very standard premade from 70s?

there were several "manufacturers" (maybe same maker, just different labels?) - dhs, shield, gold cup, pioneer etc.

but the more 'desirable' ones were the ones with the thicker dark plies.....very dense, very stable, pretty fast, good feedback

yours appears to be a 7 ply, but i think i remember the ones with the dense thick plies were actually 6 ply, i could be wrong

in the 70s, one of these, with sriver/mark v was the weapon of the day

:)

All racket in the early 70's is premade :) After the Sriver/Mark V came out, you could buy a blade alone as today standard.
I guess your DHS is around early 80's since there's a "R" presented next to DHS logo. Cheers.

TBH, I haven't EJ'd in a long, long time (>1 year XD).

But short pips play is intriguing me now - wondering if I should bite the bullet and get a new SP sheet to slap on here, or if buying a modern blade would fit the bill better...

Yes, many players used these and meteor/schield blades during the 80's and 90's.

these pre-mades could be had in sf chinatown for like $2.95 (1970s currency) out the door

the hardest part of owning one of these was trying to remove the stock original rubber from the blade, dh musta used super glue or something.....a putty knife and a lot of patience was necessary, but, then you had a very nice blade.  actually, for the day, the rubber wasn't bad, either

:)

PF4 topsheet is very prone when removing rubber, caution is needed to release the rubber because it can cause topsheet ruined
