How heavy do pros like their blades?
I know that there is probably a wide range of blade weights used by profesionals as there is among amateurs, but do they like them heavier overall? Maybe more training over the years gets them stronger so they can use heavier blades for more power? Any specific examples of the weight of top players blades?

Avalox told me in an interview that the high level players generally prefer the heavier ones of their blades.

Just wondering.
Blade weight does increase with use by 3-5g. This is due to adding sealer and/or repeated gluings. I always thought that the pros went for weights around 88-90g with the expectation that the weight would level out at about 92-94g with use. Then again, WBG may not soak into the blades as much as the old glues. As an aside, I recently bought a Stiga Kjell Johansson pro bat from 68/67. The total weight with edge tape is 157g. Player requirements have changed a bit. Edited by Tinykin - 08/01/2014 at 2:12am |
