I guess this is a response to the general feeling that Airoc is too slow. I'm not surprised that the pros who use Stiga rubbers have generally stuck to Calibra so far, but maybe this would tempt a few.

This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

M really is a no-nonsense do-anything rubber. It definitely suits more of a driving style, but it does have more grip than past Stiga rubbers in general so it doesn't suffer overly in any particular department.
It has extreme linearity, which comes as a real surprise to me in this era of elastic, slingy rubbers. Along with the predictable power delivery it also isn't very reactive to spin at low speeds and isn't particularly fast. The whole package is very forgiving, and incredibly easy to use, while remaining reasonably dangerous for the opponent. There's no chance I can make it work on the FH side, but it's the most efficient, effective BH rubber I've used for a while - since my happy days with Shark II Red Sponge, in fact. Actually, I have the same satisfying feeling at the table with Airoc M that I did with Shark. Easy to block, push, control the short game. Anything short and above net height can be annihilated with ease, almost regardless of what spin is on the ball. I do have to take BH flips on a bit earlier than before to avoid the ball dropping too low (topsheet grip isn't extreme to help with this), but that is the only adjustment I've had to make. I'll keep an eye on durability, but apart from that - I'm sold.

Sorry for the grave dig, would the topsheet be regarded as soft or hard relative to other modern tensors currently?

Yogi clearly said the rubber feels about 45 deg euro scale.
So the topsheet should feel that of 45 deg esn rubbers. It seems that you didnt even read the review lol |

Yogi specifically talked about the sponge hardness when he mentioned 45 degrees. And there are many variations in topsheet hardness among the 45 degree ESN rubbers. Airoc's topsheet is soft. |

Just to be clear, the topsheet can have a hard or soft feelings regardless of how hard or soft the sponge is, or how hard or soft the rubber "feels" overall, as that depends on both sponge and topsheet, no? Even though it "feels" 45 degrees, doesn't mean the topsheet is relative to other 45 degree "feeling" rubbers. |

Is Airoc M good at counterlooping against slow and loaded loops? With some rubbers you simply can't prevent the ball from going long, even if you swing horizontally.

Gsom, tried 5 counter loops against slow heavy top spins.
the 3rd one when I started to move 4 feet away went long the others all landed. I would say it DOESN'T have that problem. Edited by tom - 02/08/2017 at 10:46pm |

Thank you very much! As we say in Russia: the man said, the man did.
So, to counterloop successfully, one should take the ball on the rise, not move back. Right? |

Do these Stiga rubbers have something in common with Tibhar Nianmor, which was Japan made too?

I think no. Nianmor has an old gen sponge, it lacks spin and power without glue or booster. Airoc has obviously more topsheet spin and is more arcy when you do not engage the blade in your loop. Also, bh banana flick goes better with Airoc. When loopdriving 'through the ball', engaging both sponge and blade, Nianmor is on par.

That is the theory. To clarify, given the slow loop was still rising at around 3 to 4 feet from the table I executed my counter closer than that on the first 2 then move a bit further to test the rubber there. From further out the first one went long but the next 2 landed.

I would like to test an Airoc M or Astro M. But long ago i tested a Calibra LT sound and i did not like it at all. The rubor was like dead, no spin, los angle... Hope Airon are different (they are Japan made) to previous Stiga rubbers and ESN rubbers. I like Tenergy 05 for FH and 05 or 80FX for BH.

If you want them to be closer to Btfy I suggest you try Airo S in max. It has decent spin and speed.

I know thread have 6 years but Airoc M is very OK on very fast super zlc blade. IF you buy this rubber for 15-17 euro you will be happy because it gives you more time on backhand side. So after long time for table tennis this is very OK rubber
