Using the same scale and tared each time, a specially bought Viscaria went from 93g a two months ago to 91g now. I tested it for 10 min but didn't want to damage it so I've been playing with my original 88g Viscaria.

can this be due to the temperature and humidity?

I've observed the same phenomenon.  I've monitored the weight of my Viscaria for a period of time before putting it into use.  Right at the time of purchase, the blade weighed 89.6g.  It was late winter.  I then left it on the shelf in the original box unprotected.  Three months later, the blade weighed 90.5g.
Viscaria FL - 91g
+ Neo H3 2.15 Blk - 44.5g(55.3g uncut bare)
+ Hexer HD 2.1 Red - 49.3g(68.5g 〃 〃)
= 184.8g

yup its due to difference in those two factors, also is affected by how and where you store your blade

We had this topic about two years ago. The conclusion there also seemed to be that some blades when used by people with sweaty palms can gain some weight due to salt infusing/depositing in the handle, up to a point of saturation (of sorts).

Any change vs new blade will also depend on how well the wood was dried at the time when you bought it, so these two factors can sometimes work in opposite directions.
Personally, I would consider unusual any change of more than, say, 2 grams over a year, although this certainly depends on how often and where you play.

If you seal the blade, it would stop the oxidation, humidity, etc adding weight over time.

the difference is they aren't playing with the blades. so the sweat won't effect it. they're just keeping them unprotected in boxes.

thanks. I never really weighed blades before except when purchasing so I assumed they were static. This is good to know.

it's typical for blades to vary as much as a couple of grams with long term changes in humidity.  I've observed it across large numbers of blades simultaneously
Wavestone St with Illumina 1.9r, defender1.7b

Please let me know if I can be of assistance.

Never heard of this before! I got really sweaty palms so I should maybe do a experiment when I'm changing blade next time! Wink

i think this is the main reason people laquer even the handle. to prevent sweat from changing the weight and adding stains.
