congrats! I've had chances at medals in unsanctioned tournaments but their rules were:
"1st and 2nd place get money, 3rd gets a medal" nonsense right?!? i wanted the medal instead of money.

I got my first medal at the very first tournament I played, I went to the final but didn´t get gold, only silver.
However it took me 3 years to get another medal, and again a silver medal. My first gold came only 6 years after I started to play.
