    Posted: 01/28/2016 at 10:08pm
I'm wondering what's the most common ideal weight of blade for people here. As for myself, I used to prefer blades within 84-86g, untill recently I metal taped the edge of my blade so it's about 96g now.

I have a Giant Dragon Balsa blade at about 70g.  I've just used it for about 5 hours, but like it.

Depend on the balance my blade could be anywhere between 70-90gr. I found that balance is what affects most my game

85 - 92 grams. Sorry but 70 grams for the balsa is way too light! It also depends on how heavy the rubber is you're playing with. You should worry more about the overall total weight. My total weight is about 176 grams. I know some high-level players that practice with me have about 195 grams for their total weight. I use SPs on my FH which lowers the weight a little. My blade usually weighs around 85 - 88 grams. I bought a Stiga blade from Paddle Palace once that was supposed to weigh 85 grams, but it only weighed 77 gms. Was totally unplayable for me! From that time on I've always asked the seller to weigh the blade for me before shipping.

Very personal preference. And the blade weight feels very different if the weight is located in the head or in the handle.
I seem to be ok with total weight of 185 grams with a range of 178-188 or so. Usually look for blades of 85 or so. I would not buy a blade over 100 grams.

Depends on the blade and weight distribution, usually heavier the better. I play blades in range of 85 - 120+ grams.

Yes balance is everything. BTY TBS and BTY K7 are perfect examples of beautifully balanced blades. Even with thick rubbers you don't notice the weight so much. I like total weight about 183gr-186gr.

I find a nice balance is about 70-73 G on the blade. This way I can throw a heavier FH rubber and a lighter BH rubber and get a pretty nice balance. Anything heavier and it tends to bog me down. It's all personal pref though. I see a lot of people using super heavy bats.

Guys don't forget to consider your body weight. Someone who is really think cannot hold a mazunov for example, also a heavy-weighted guy, like me, cannot hold a 70 gramms blade. Maybe it will sound funny to you what I've told you, but it is true.

The ideal weight is between 175-205 g. With current "heavy" rubbers, which are suitable for plastic balls, are very heavy.
I dont like blades, which are leighter than 85 g (it feels dead, and unconstistently). So, f.e. :average good blade 95g+50 g rasant+50g maxx-p= 195 g

Could you elaborate a bit more on this, because as a heavier set guy myself, I have no issues handling my blade of 75g (minus the weight of my rubber).  Is this expected of all heavier set men or just you in particular? Thank you for your time in advance.

I find that the heavier the blade, the more longer my balls go, I'm assuming the more I practice with the heavier blade the more consistent I will be of course. But I feel with a lighter set up my hand speed when looping is 10 times faster and controllable than a heavier blade, I have a much more consistent hit with my lighter set up than my heavier setup (clipper with bluefire m1 fh and xiom vega europe for bh.) I can make my arm speed the same, but the heavier set up will go long 9 times out of 10.  Any insight to this, and am I losing anything by having a very light set up?

I have 4 blades all between 77-79 gms. that I use all of the time.

I have others that I have retired, ranging from about 65 gms (balsa) to over 90 gms (Old repaired Viscaria, and an old Keyshot).

Body type has nothing to do with total racket weight. Playing style/level determines the best weight for each individual player.

My preference is fixed on light-weight blades. I find them better to feel the ball when chopping, plus they never tire my hand or my wrist even after 3-4 hours playing.
My donic defplay senso is 89 gr and my donic defplay Classic 66 gr - I like this one better for the weight.

It is more physics...It doesn't mean that all the heavy-weighted players should hold heavier blades. But generally as much heavier you are, the more heavier blade u should hold. But again, it is not a rule.
