lol guys it's because the girl is always sacrificed when they date a main player below age 25 or something (forgot the actual age). Same thing happened to Ma Lin's girlfriend before, and LGL's wife (then girlfriend) played for Japan (if I remember correctly), because LGL wasn't allowed to date. The main male players have always been considered more important (i.e. men singles gold has always been the most important medal for the CNT) than the female players.

Perhaps the coaches didn't know until he became a main player. I don't know the details, but I think only the main players are forbidden to date until a certain age, i.e. Xu Xin became a main player, which is why Yao Yan had to leave the CNT. Something along those lines. The coaches probably don't care too muhc about the "non-important" CNT people. Unfortunately, men are traditionally treated with more importance than women in China...although now that I come to think of it, male athletes usually win more money in tournaments than women do lol.
