I met a former boxer who started playing TT in his 20s a few years ago. I have not seen anyone improving faster than him.

I've often told new players that footwork and strokes are a lot like a good Boxer. They always keep their balance and never over-extend on their punches. Many players have strokes that are too big or they follow through too much at the end of their stroke, so I've often said a Boxer would be good at table tennis.

On a different note, there is a boxing coach who plays at one of my clubs and he has non-existent footwork. He literally stands square to the table and never moves his feet. His boxing training, for him at least, never translated to his table tennis game.
